To link one note to another in Apple Notes, type >> in the note, begin typing the destination note’s title, then select it. The shortcut works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and iCloud.com. On Mac, you can also link directly to a section of a note.
Link notes on iPhone or iPad

Open the note where you want the link and place the cursor where it should appear.

Type >>, then enter the title of the note you want to link to.

Select the matching note. If you want to start a new note instead, choose the option to create one from the suggestion.

Apple documents this note-link workflow in its iPhone Notes guide. Its current iPhone guide is for iOS 26; the available steps and labels can vary with software versions.
Use custom link text on iPhone
Select the words you want to turn into a link, tap Add Link, enter the destination note’s title, and select the matching note. To change or remove a link later, touch and hold it.

On iPad, the documented shortcut is also to type >> and choose an existing or newly created note. Apple’s iPad guide also describes turning off Use Note Title when editing a link to use custom text. See Add links in Notes on iPad.
Link notes on Mac
Use the menu or shortcut

In the source note, choose Edit > Add Link.

Type the destination note’s name and select it from the matching list.

For a faster method, type >> in the note, enter the destination title, and select the note. Apple’s Mac Notes guide covers both methods.
Link directly to a section
To point to a specific section rather than the note generally, type >>, select the destination note, then type / and choose a section. If you use Edit > Add Link, choose the section from the Link to Section menu.

Choose the link text and manage the link
When adding a note link, leave Use Note Title on to have the link text follow the destination note’s title. Turn it off to enter different text. Control-click an existing link to edit or remove it.
Link notes on iCloud.com
In a note on iCloud.com, type >> and select a destination note. If it does not appear in the initial suggestions, keep typing its title; you can also create a new note from the suggestion. Apple describes this workflow in its iCloud.com Notes guide.

Link text: destination title or custom wording?
These two choices behave differently. A title-based link uses the destination note’s title as its displayed text and can update when that title changes. Custom link text uses the wording you chose instead; on iPhone, select the text and use Add Link, while on Mac you can turn off Use Note Title when adding the link. Apple documents the title-based behavior in its iPhone guide and the custom-text control in its Mac guide.
Add a webpage link instead
A link between notes is different from a URL that opens a website. To add a webpage link on iPhone, select text or place the cursor, open the forwarding or more-options control, choose Add Link, enter the URL, and optionally add a display name. Tap Done. To edit or remove it, touch and hold the link.
On Mac, paste or type the URL and press Space or Return, or select text and press Command-K to add a link. You can also choose Edit > Add Link. If a typed URL does not become a link automatically, turn on Edit > Substitutions > Smart Links. On iCloud.com, use Command-K on Mac or Control-K on Windows to enter a URL and optional link name, then choose Done. Those shortcuts can also open the note-link selection field. Compatibility and account-provider caveats
Apple warns that notes containing links to other notes may not be visible on devices running earlier versions of macOS. If a linked note is missing on an older Mac, check it on a newer compatible device or in iCloud.com rather than assuming it was deleted.
Apple’s Mac guide says the described Notes features are available with iCloud notes and that some features are unavailable with other providers. If the link options or behavior differ, check whether the notes are stored in iCloud or through another account provider.
