Press Home on your LG remote to leave Live TV and open the TV’s Home screen. To switch directly to a connected device, open Home Hub or External Input and select its HDMI input. The right button can vary by remote and TV model.
Choose where you want to go

LG describes the Magic Remote’s Home button as displaying recommended content, Home Hub, and the app list. LG’s remote guidance explains the Home button and related controls.
Return to the Home screen
- Press Home on the remote.
- Use the Home screen to open an app or choose another destination.
If an on-screen menu is open, press Back to return to the previous screen. On some Magic Remotes, holding Back exits on-screen displays and returns to Home; this behavior depends on the remote and model.
Switch from Live TV to HDMI
- Open Home Hub or External Input.
- Select the HDMI input connected to the device you want to watch.
Choosing an HDMI input takes you to an attached device, such as a cable box or game console. It is different from selecting Live TV, which LG’s troubleshooting guidance uses for a wired cable or antenna connection. See LG’s no-picture troubleshooting guidance for input selection details.

Get out of LG Channels
LG Channels is internet-streamed live TV, not the same as a broadcast or cable input. Press Home to return to the Home screen, or open Home Hub or External Input and select another source. LG says the service’s model and country support can vary; its U.S. support page says the web service is currently available only in the United States. Check LG’s LG Channels support information for availability details.
What if the remote has an EXIT button?
Some older LG remotes have a dedicated EXIT button. In LG’s legacy remote guide, EXIT clears on-screen displays and returns to TV viewing. That guide describes a separate LIVE TV button as returning to Live TV, so do not use it when your goal is to leave that mode. These instructions apply to the legacy remote documented by LG, not necessarily to newer remotes. Consult LG’s remote guide for the controls on your remote.

If the buttons do not match
- Look for Home, Home Hub, or External Input; labels and layouts vary across remote generations and TV models.
- Use Back to dismiss or step out of an open menu. Holding it to return Home is supported only on some Magic Remotes.
- If you are replacing a missing or faulty remote, confirm compatibility with your exact TV model before buying; button layouts and functions differ.
