YouTube does not automatically attach podcast RSS metadata to a live stream or its archive just because you add the video to a playlist. Keep the podcast episode’s details in its RSS feed or the video’s own details in YouTube Studio, set up live-stream metadata separately, then check the archive and add it to the podcast playlist only if it is a full episode.
How YouTube handles podcast and live-stream metadata
YouTube treats a podcast as a playlist and each podcast episode as a video. A live stream has its own title, description, settings, and stream key. These are related records, but they do not automatically synchronize simply because a live archive is placed in the podcast playlist.
This distinction determines where to make changes: use the RSS feed for an RSS-managed episode, Studio for a video managed directly on YouTube, and the live-stream setup for the event itself.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose the source of truth for each episode
For an episode delivered by RSS
If your audio-first show is distributed through an RSS feed, correct the episode title, description, and release date in the feed before YouTube ingests it. YouTube can create videos from selected feed episodes and upload new episodes automatically. RSS ingestion is available only in select countries or regions; check YouTube’s RSS-feed guidance for current availability and setup details.

Do not edit an RSS-managed episode’s details in Studio if you want the feed to remain authoritative. YouTube Help states: “If you change episode details in YouTube Studio, we’ll block future edits to that episode made within your RSS feed.” Make later corrections in the feed instead. This restriction applies to episode details; podcast-level settings remain editable in Studio.
For a video managed in Studio
If the episode is not managed through RSS, use the video’s details in YouTube Studio as the source of truth. Keep the show’s podcast-level information—such as its title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and episode order—separate from each video’s title and description. YouTube recommends that a podcast playlist contain full-length episodes, not clips, unrelated videos, or material from other channels. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.

Set up live metadata separately
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio. Enter the event’s own title and description; do not assume YouTube will fill them from a podcast RSS feed.
- If reusing a previous stream, review every copied field. YouTube Help says: “The new stream will copy the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and the stream key.” Reuse copies stream-to-stream settings, not podcast episode metadata. You can change the stream after creation. Follow YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
- Check the event’s details before going live. Confirm that the title and description identify the correct episode or event, and that the selected settings are appropriate for this stream.
Review the archive and put it in the right playlist
YouTube says live archives are uploaded by default after events, and streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
- Open the completed stream’s video details in Studio. Check the archive’s title, description, and visibility rather than assuming they match the feed.
- Decide what the archive represents. If it is a full-length episode belonging to the show, add the existing video to the podcast playlist and verify its details and position. If it is an event recording, discussion, or other material that is not a full episode, place it in a regular live-events playlist instead.
- Set the playlist’s order and details. Studio’s playlist controls allow you to add videos and edit a playlist’s title, description, visibility, and order. YouTube documents a maximum of 150 characters for a playlist title and 5,000 characters for its description; these limits apply to playlist fields, not the episode video’s title and description. See YouTube’s playlist guidance.
Understand dates and episode order
For RSS-uploaded episodes, YouTube says the playlist uses the RSS release date when one is present; otherwise it uses the YouTube publish date. The RSS release date is not verified, and YouTube surfaces may show the feed release date or the YouTube publish date. Editing a release date in Studio does not change the RSS feed’s date.

For an episodic show, YouTube recommends newest-to-oldest ordering. For serial storytelling, it recommends oldest-to-newest. Choose the order that helps listeners follow your format, then check the playlist order in Studio. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.
What playlist membership does—and does not—do
Adding a video to a playlist organizes it; official YouTube guidance does not say that playlist membership transfers RSS episode metadata to a live stream or its archive. Do not rely on the playlist to synchronize a title, description, or release date. If the archive is intended to serve as a podcast episode, review its video details and playlist placement after the event.

Some podcast hosting platforms offer YouTube distribution, but YouTube advises creators to check with their host. Confirm that a specific host supports the metadata workflow you need; distribution alone does not establish that it will synchronize a live archive’s details. See YouTube’s information about podcast hosting platforms.
Common metadata problems and fixes
- RSS edits no longer appear on YouTube: Check whether you changed that episode’s details in Studio. If so, YouTube blocks future RSS edits for that episode; make the correction in Studio or manage the episode through the appropriate source of truth.
- A reused stream has the wrong episode title or description: Reusing a stream copies its prior metadata. Edit the new stream’s details before the event.
- The archive does not show the podcast episode details: Playlist membership is not documented as a metadata-sync mechanism. Review the archive’s own video details in Studio and correct them there if Studio is the source of truth.
- The playlist order or displayed date seems wrong: For RSS episodes, check the feed release date and the YouTube publish date. Studio changes to a release date do not edit the feed date, and YouTube surfaces may display different dates.
- A long stream has no archive: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording as a backup and verify archive availability after the event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the live event is a pre-recorded episode you want to keep looping on YouTube, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud: upload it, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo keeps the stream running; it does not synchronize podcast RSS episode metadata, so review the YouTube archive and playlist separately. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
