To keep an Indian internet radio stream live on YouTube during a power cut, back up both the local streaming equipment and the internet connection it uses. A UPS or inverter can keep powered devices running, but it cannot guarantee that your internet provider’s network or mobile service will remain available. Map your complete setup, size backup power to its actual load and required runtime, then test the whole chain during a controlled outage.
Understand the two parts of stream continuity
Your stream depends on two separate things: a powered broadcast chain at your station and an outbound internet path to YouTube. If either fails, the YouTube stream can be interrupted. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance treats encoder health and outbound internet strength as distinct checks (YouTube Help: Troubleshooting your live stream); the National Informatics Centre’s webcast prerequisites likewise identify network connectivity as a requirement (NIC webcast prerequisites).
A UPS or inverter can supply power to equipment connected to it. It cannot power an ISP’s equipment outside your premises, restore a failed last-mile link, or guarantee mobile coverage. Plan for power and connectivity separately rather than assuming that keeping the router on will keep the stream online.

Trace the radio audio from its source to YouTube, and list every device that must stay on for that path to work. Depending on your setup, this may include:

- Fast Solar Charging: Perfect for off-grid use, this solar powered generator pairs seamlessly with Jackery panels. Reach 80% capacity in approximately 2.8 hours with a 100W solar panel, or maintain your gear with a portable 40W panel (80% in 7.5 hours), making it an essential part of your hunting essentials.
- WHAT YOU GET: 1* Jackery Explorer 300 Portable Power Station, 1*AC adapter, 1* car charger cable, 1* user guide (𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝.)
- The audio source or playout computer.
- The streaming computer or hardware encoder.
- An audio interface, if the source connects through one.
- The modem or optical network terminal (ONT), router, and any network switch used by the encoder.
Only equipment connected to a working backup supply is protected by it. For example, powering the encoder but not the modem or router may leave the encoder running without an internet connection. The right equipment list depends on your station’s signal path; there is no universal configuration.
Size backup power to the load and the outage you need to cover
Choose backup power based on the devices you need to run and the duration you want to cover. A small UPS may suit a router and modem; a streaming computer or hardware encoder may need a larger UPS or an inverter sized for its load and runtime target. Check the connected equipment’s power requirements and the backup unit’s specifications rather than relying on a generic wattage or runtime estimate. Battery condition also affects how long a unit can supply power.

- 【Long-Lasting & Safe LiFePO4 Battery】: 3500+ life cycles (far exceeding standard batteries). Durable LiFePO4 batteries last 3x longer than standard lithium batteries! Advanced BMS provides 12 safety protections, monitoring voltage, current & temperature. Powers your smartphone, laptop, mini-fridge, camera, and drone simultaneously.
Include the modem or ONT, router, and any required network switch in your load calculation, not just the computer or encoder. A UPS for a Wi-Fi router and modem can address the local-network power portion of the problem, but it does not ensure that service upstream remains available. Replace or service batteries according to the manufacturer’s guidance, and confirm that the backup unit is suitable for the equipment you connect.
Check whether the internet path survives a power cut
With the local equipment protected, observe your wired connection during a controlled power-cut simulation. A secondary ISP or mobile broadband link may provide another path only if it is genuinely independent, has usable coverage at the station, and can deliver enough upload capacity for the stream. Check local signal, upload performance, data limits, and how the connection would change over if the primary link fails. A backup connection is not a guarantee of seamless failover.

The NIC’s Government of India webcast prerequisites specify dedicated network bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream for that webcast service (NIC webcast prerequisites). That is specific to NIC’s service; it is not a universal broadband requirement or a substitute for YouTube’s encoder settings.
Configure and test the YouTube stream
Confirm the channel and encoder are ready
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. The channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream in advance, checking its preview, and testing before relying on it (YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder).

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” Run an upload speed test and use the actual stream to confirm the connection is stable; a nominal speed result alone does not promise a reliable broadcast. For H.264 at 30 frames per second, YouTube’s recommended bitrate settings are:

Check stream health and the public player
Before depending on the setup, test with the intended radio audio and video. Check the stream’s health in YouTube Live Control Room, then confirm that viewers can access it from the channel or watch page and from a mobile device. Monitor both audio and video continuously during the test. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion and advises testing encoder failover: stop the primary encoder or disconnect its Ethernet cable, then confirm that the player rolls over to the backup encoder. Failover should be tested, not assumed (YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Run a controlled power-cut test
- Document the signal and power path. Note which devices generate the radio audio, feed it to the encoder, and carry the encoder’s traffic to the internet.
- Connect the required devices to backup power. Include the networking equipment the stream needs, and confirm that each device is actually powered by the UPS or inverter.
- Start a test stream at the intended settings. Check audio, video, bitrate, and YouTube’s stream-health status.
- Simulate the outage safely. Use an appropriate controlled test rather than waiting for a real power cut; observe whether every device stays on and whether the internet path remains usable.
- Check the viewer experience. Open the public stream on the watch or channel page and a mobile device, and confirm playback continues.
- Test encoder failover if you have a backup encoder. Interrupt the primary encoder as YouTube describes and verify that the player rolls over to the backup.
Keep an operator able to respond during broadcasts. A powered encoder may still report poor stream health or lose outbound connectivity, so monitor the dashboard and public player rather than treating backup power as proof that the stream is healthy.
Troubleshoot common failures
| What you observe | What to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| The encoder stops when mains power fails. | Which devices lost power, including the computer or encoder and any audio interface. | Recheck the equipment and power map; connect required devices to appropriately sized backup power and test again. |
| The encoder stays on, but the stream disconnects. | Whether the modem or ONT, router, and required switch stayed powered; whether outbound internet is available. | Check the complete local network path, then test the connection independently of the encoder. |
| The encoder output appears healthy, but viewers cannot watch reliably. | YouTube stream health and the outbound connection. YouTube notes that a healthy-looking encoder output can still point to an outbound internet problem. | Test upload strength, inspect stream health, and verify the public player on another device. |
| A backup encoder is running, but viewers do not roll over to it. | Whether YouTube’s player actually changes to the backup when the primary is interrupted. | Repeat a controlled failover test and confirm the player’s behavior before relying on it. |
| A secondary connection is available but does not maintain the broadcast. | Whether the backup link is independent, has sufficient upload performance and data, and can take over without interrupting the encoder session. | Test the handover at the station; do not assume that having two connections means failover is automatic. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home or station computer to be the part that has to stay powered, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping to YouTube from the cloud. The setup is: upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
