AI can draft marketplace titles, bullets, descriptions, attributes, and images, but it cannot guarantee that they are true or sound like your brand. Use it as a drafting tool: start with verified product facts, give it approved brand guidance, check every factual claim and customer-facing asset, then confirm the destination platform’s current rules before publishing.
How do I keep AI-generated product descriptions accurate?
Build a source-of-truth product record before prompting. Google Search Central warns that generative output can be inaccurate and says manual fact-checking before publication is critical. The FTC likewise says U.S. advertisers need a reasonable basis for objective claims before disseminating them; the support required depends on the claim and context.
1. Assemble approved product facts
Use only information verified by the responsible product source. Include the exact product name and model, dimensions and units, materials, color names, included components, compatibility, condition, care instructions, origin, certifications, warranty, and evidence for performance or health claims. Mark missing fields as unknown rather than allowing the model to fill them with plausible guesses.
Keep a source or evidence reference for each factual statement the AI produces. If a claim has no support, remove it or ask the product owner to provide evidence. Route consequential claims—particularly those about safety, health, compatibility, or performance—to an appropriately qualified reviewer.

2. Check each claim, not just the overall impression
Compare every title, bullet, description, attribute, and image caption against the approved record. Check model identifiers, numbers, unit conversions, materials, colors, included accessories, compatibility, condition, and superlatives. Read claims in context: wording can imply more than the supporting evidence establishes. FTC guidance covers express and implied objective claims. Google also recommends reviewing generated website metadata, including titles, meta descriptions, structured data, and image alt text.
A claim ledger makes review traceable. Record the generated wording, the factual proposition it makes, the supporting source or evidence owner, the reviewer, and whether the wording was approved, edited, or removed. This is a useful editorial control, not a format mandated by the marketplaces discussed here.
3. Keep human approval before publication
Assign a named person to approve final copy and imagery. Review the live listing again after edits, translations, bulk uploads, or marketplace syndication: a correct source listing can become inaccurate when it is transformed for another destination. Google recommends manual review, and Amazon encourages sellers to review AI-generated product details before submission.

How can I make AI product listings sound like my brand?
Give the model a bounded brand brief alongside the verified product record. Include approved product names and terminology, audience, tone, spelling and capitalization, formatting limits, examples of acceptable voice, approved positioning, and words or claims to avoid. Tell it explicitly not to infer missing product fields.
Review brand fit separately from factual accuracy. Copy can be factually correct but still use the wrong terminology, tone, audience, or positioning. Conversely, polished brand language can introduce unsupported claims. Do not allow terms such as “best,” “safest,” “clinically proven,” “eco-friendly,” or “made in [place]” unless you have appropriate support for them.
Amazon says its brand-oriented A+ Content generation can be steered with descriptive product terms, such as “quality leather” or “versatile for any occasion.” That illustrates a tool capability; it does not establish that generated copy will be accurate or consistently on-brand without review.

Can I use AI-generated photos in marketplace listings?
Only use imagery that does not misrepresent the actual item or what the buyer will receive. Check generated and edited visuals for changes to color, scale, finish, accessories, or product details. Do not use a generated scene as evidence of product features that have not been verified.
Etsy imagery requirements
For Etsy’s “made by a seller” listings, its policy calls for original photos or video of the final product. For custom or personalized goods, the first image must show the finished customized item. These are Etsy-specific requirements, not a universal rule for every marketplace.
Google Merchant Center image and data labels
Google’s guidance distinguishes AI-generated product data from AI-generated images. For Merchant Center, AI-generated images must include IPTC DigitalSourceType metadata identifying TrainedAlgorithmicMedia; AI-generated product data, such as title and description attributes, must be specified separately and labeled as AI-generated. Consult Google’s current implementation guidance before uploading.

Amazon metadata notice about synthetic people
An Amazon Seller Forums announcement from News_Amazon says media containing photorealistic AI-generated people must have the keyword contains-synthetic-performer in the XMP dc:subject field before upload. The announcement says the requirement applies only when the media contains photorealistic AI-generated people. Because this is a recent platform notice, verify the live Seller Central instructions, scope, and timing before relying on it.
Do I have to disclose AI-generated product descriptions or images?
There is no single disclosure rule established here for every marketplace and every kind of AI-assisted listing. Follow the destination platform’s current policy and distinguish disclosure rules from labeling or metadata requirements.
Etsy: disclose seller-prompted AI creations
Etsy permits seller-prompted AI creations based on the seller’s original prompts under its “designed by a seller” category, but requires sellers to disclose in the listing description when an item was created using AI. Its policy also separately sets the product-image requirements described above.

Google Merchant Center: label AI data and mark AI images
Google’s Merchant Center guidance calls for AI-generated product data to be labeled and AI-generated images to carry the specified IPTC metadata. These are Google-specific requirements; do not treat them as Etsy or general marketplace rules.
Check each destination’s live policy
Before publication, check the current rules for each marketplace or shopping channel where a listing will appear. Policies may differ by platform, listing category, and type of generated content. Google Search Central’s recommendations for web content do not replace a marketplace’s own listing rules.
What do Amazon’s AI listing tools do—and what do their figures show?
Amazon describes tools that can draft titles, descriptions, and attributes from text, images, or an existing listing URL, and later described broader listing and A+ Content generation with brand-term inputs. Amazon encourages sellers to review generated product details before submission.

It also reported in 2024 that more than 400,000 sellers globally had used its generative AI listing tools. These are Amazon-reported acceptance and adoption figures, not independent measures of factual accuracy, conversion performance, or brand consistency.
The guidance cited here does not establish that AI-generated listings are generally more accurate or more on-brand than human-written listings. Evaluate any workflow by whether it grounds claims in approved facts, gives you control over brand language, supports human review, fits platform rules, preserves media fidelity, and lets you audit the final approved copy.
