For in-room playback, put the worship videos you’re authorized to use in a YouTube playlist, open it on the computer or TV connected to the room display, and test autoplay on that device. You do not need to start a YouTube livestream just to play videos for people in the room. Because YouTube playback can stop after inactivity, plan for a volunteer to check or restart it rather than treating it as guaranteed nonstop playback.
Set up an ordered playlist for the youth room
- Choose and order the videos. Build a playlist from the worship videos your ministry has permission to play. Set its visibility so the intended group can access it; a private playlist may require access through the account that created it, while other visibility options may make it easier to open on the room device. Check YouTube’s current options in your account.
- Save the playlist, not just a temporary queue. On a computer, YouTube lets you save a queue to an existing playlist or create a new one. A queue is temporary and does not remain when you close the browser, so save it if you want to reuse the sequence. See YouTube’s queue help.
- Open it on the device connected to the display. Use equipment already available, such as a computer and browser or a TV running the YouTube app. There is no established best device for reliability; controls and labels can differ by app version, TV brand, account settings, and region.
- Check autoplay on that device. Start the playlist and verify playback continues to the next item. YouTube’s autoplay setting is device-specific, so do not assume that enabling it on a phone or personal account also enables it on the room’s TV or computer. On TVs, look for the autoplay control in the YouTube app; exact placement may vary. YouTube explains autoplay and its device controls.
- Run a full-length test before the gathering. YouTube says autoplay may stop after four hours on Wi-Fi or 30 minutes on a mobile network due to inactivity. That means a playlist may not cover a long session without attention. Have a volunteer nearby who can restart playback if it stops.
Playlist, autoplay, and livestream are different
Playlist: your chosen sequence
A playlist is the curated order of videos you selected. It is the right starting point when the goal is to play those videos in a room.
Autoplay: what plays next
Autoplay can continue playback, but it may select a related video rather than reliably follow the ministry’s intended sequence. Use a playlist for the sequence, then check autoplay on the actual playback device.

A YouTube livestream is a separate broadcast workflow for sending a live or encoder-produced feed to viewers online. It is not needed for ordinary in-room playback. If you intend to broadcast worship remotely, YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Available routes include mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. For an encoder, configure it through Live Control Room and protect the stream key like a password; YouTube’s stream settings help covers controls such as privacy, latency, DVR, and auto-start/auto-stop.

Check music and video rights before playback or broadcast
Putting a video in a playlist does not grant permission to play or rebroadcast its music, recording, or footage. Rights requirements depend on the content, use, and ministry’s territory. For online broadcasts, YouTube’s livestream terms require the broadcaster to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace content with a placeholder, interrupt, or terminate a stream. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Read the YouTube livestream terms and its copyright guidance for live streams.
CCLI’s US Streaming Licenses page describes coverage for worship services using songs performed live by church musicians; Streaming Plus extends the described scope to authorized master recordings and multitracks. CCLI also says video content usually requires permission from the copyright owner, with a stated exception for SongSelect Lyric Videos under its terms. Its US guidance identifies limits on artist recordings and prerecorded songs unless expressly authorized. Do not assume a church streaming license covers arbitrary third-party YouTube music videos. Check the specific license terms for your country and planned use, and obtain permission from relevant rights holders where required. This US guidance is not a complete legal analysis for other territories; consult the applicable local terms.

When a playlist stops or does not follow the plan
- Playback stops before the gathering ends: Check whether the device is on Wi-Fi or a mobile network and whether YouTube’s inactivity limit may apply. Restart playback and keep a volunteer available to monitor it.
- A different video starts: Autoplay may have selected a related video. Return to the curated playlist and confirm it is playing; do not rely on autoplay alone to preserve the intended order.
- The playlist is missing on the room device: Confirm that the device is signed into an account that can access it, or adjust the playlist visibility to suit how the group will open it.
- A desktop queue disappears: Save the queue as a playlist before closing the browser; YouTube says queues do not persist after browser closure.
- A livestream is interrupted: Check the Live Control Room for platform notices and review rights for every recording, song, and video. A license that covers some worship music uses does not necessarily cover a prerecorded music video, and Content ID allowlisting may matter even where material is licensed.
