To keep a YouTube Live warehouse or factory tour running continuously, use an encoder and internet connection designed for sustained operation, leave upload-bandwidth headroom, monitor stream health, and record a local backup. No single setting guarantees uptime: power, network, encoder, and YouTube interruptions all need a recovery plan. Also plan replay storage separately—a live stream that runs beyond 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube.
Choose how to keep the feed live
A continuous tour feed can be produced with a software encoder on a computer or with a dedicated hardware encoder. The right choice depends on the site, production requirements, and how you will respond if equipment or connectivity fails.
| Approach | When it may fit | What to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | A staffed control point or a setup where an operator can monitor the computer and encoder. | Whether the computer can run unattended, how the encoder recovers after a crash or lost connection, whether it supports local recording, and whether the site can maintain power and internet. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A production setup where a purpose-built encoding device suits the workflow. | Supported codecs and protocols, output resolution and frame rate, monitoring and recovery behavior, local recording options, and fit with the site’s available upload. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; that is not an endorsement of a specific model. |
For either approach, verify sustained operation and failover in a representative test before relying on it for a public, unattended feed. YouTube advises preparing the encoder well in advance and testing failover, but does not prescribe a complete site-level power or network redundancy design.

Check channel eligibility and create the live configuration
- Confirm eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming encoder setup guidance.
- Create the live event and stream configuration. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and its stream settings. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Set viewer controls intentionally. Decide whether to enable DVR, which lets viewers pause and rewind. Choose latency based on the experience you want: lower latency can increase buffering, and it is less important when real-time interaction is not central to a tour.
Match resolution and bitrate to measured upload
Choose a resolution and frame rate the site can sustain, then measure the available upload under representative operating conditions. YouTube recommends that the total streaming bitrate stay below available upload bandwidth and says to leave 20% headroom. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee against outages. If you use primary and backup encoders at the same time, include both streams in the total upload requirement.

| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, not universal minimums or a promise of uninterrupted streaming. The appropriate setting depends on the encoder, content, chosen output, and actual upload available. A moving tour may reveal weaknesses that a static test image will not.
Configure the encoder and test the actual tour
- Use RTMPS where supported. YouTube recommends RTMPS and documents H.264, H.265, and AV1 settings. Check the current YouTube encoder settings and confirm that your encoder supports the chosen codec and protocol.
- Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. Copy the server details from the stream configuration into the encoder. Do not disclose or publish the key.
- Set constant bitrate and keyframes. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Confirm that the encoder applies those settings to the outgoing stream.
- Test representative footage and sound. Walk through the intended camera views and include typical movement, lighting, and audio conditions. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health while testing.
- Check the local recording. Confirm that recording is enabled if needed, that the file grows during the test, and that a sample can be opened and played. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup.
- Allow time for preparation. YouTube’s event guidance recommends setting up the encoder two hours in advance and starting it 15 minutes before a scheduled start. Those are preparation recommendations, not continuous-stream uptime guarantees.
Plan for power, internet, and encoder failures
A stream key or an auto-start setting does not by itself ensure 24/7 availability. If a site loses power, its internet connection, or the encoder, the live feed can stop. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream and advises testing encoder failover.

- Identify who will receive alerts and who can inspect the encoder and Live Control Room.
- Test what happens when the primary encoder loses its connection, including whether a backup encoder can take over without creating a conflicting feed.
- Assess site-specific power and connectivity risks. A backup connection or power system may help, but its suitability depends on the facility and must be tested as part of the complete setup.
- Check that a restart restores the intended stream configuration and that the encoder does not require an operator to re-enter sensitive credentials.
The exact recovery behavior depends on the encoder, network, power design, and account configuration. A test under realistic conditions is more informative than assuming a device or setting will recover correctly.

YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The threshold is an archive caveat, not a maximum duration for broadcasting. If a full replay matters, record locally and verify the recording rather than relying on YouTube to preserve a long continuous feed.

For a programmatic workflow, YouTube’s API documentation describes using one stream resource for a continuous 24/7 feed and a separate broadcast resource for an interview carried on that feed. This is a developer approach that requires careful management of broadcast states; it is not a substitute for planning recording and failure recovery.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your tour consists of prerecorded footage rather than a live camera, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Each slot supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, and 24/7 looping and playlists. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. In India, UPI and cards are accepted; card checkout is available worldwide. It streams to YouTube and plays uploaded video; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. See the upload-time calculator, cloud vs PC cost calculator, and copyright safety checklist. To try it, start your free first day.

Common problems and fixes
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check actual upload use against total stream bitrate, restore the recommended headroom, and inspect network stability. Test the backup path and encoder failover rather than assuming a reconnect will work.
- The picture stutters or buffers: Confirm the encoder is sustaining the selected resolution and frame rate, check stream health, and reduce output demands if the measured connection cannot support them with headroom.
- The feed does not start: Verify channel eligibility, the server URL, and the stream key. Check that the encoder is sending the expected codec and protocol settings.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Check the local recording and consider a separate recording or segmented workflow if the replay must be retained.
- The recording exists but cannot be trusted: Verify that the file is still growing during operation and test playback. A recording option that is enabled but not producing a usable file is not a reliable archive.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Use footage and audio you have the rights to stream, including background music or material captured inside the facility. Check YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules before going live; eligibility to use an encoder does not establish rights to broadcast the tour. For prerecorded footage, review the copyright safety checklist before scheduling a continuous loop.
