Keep the Kindle’s screen covered whenever you carry it in a purse or sling bag. Amazon’s care guidance says, “When carrying your Kindle in a bag or briefcase, keep a cover on to avoid scratches.”
Choose a cover that shields the screen in your bag
Use a fitted cover that stays attached to the Kindle, or put the device in a sleeve that fully covers its screen while stored. Amazon recommends a cover during bag carry; it does not compare these options or establish that one protects better than the other.
- Fitted cover: Choose this if you want the cover to remain on the Kindle when you take it out to read.
- Sleeve: Choose this if you prefer to remove the Kindle from its covering before reading. Make sure the sleeve covers the screen while the device is inside.
Whichever style you choose, keep the cover or sleeve in place while the Kindle is in the bag, and avoid storing it with abrasive items in direct contact with the screen.
Check that the accessory fits your Kindle model
Kindle covers are not universal. Identify your Kindle model and generation, then confirm the accessory listing explicitly includes that device before buying. Amazon provides official product information guides for different Kindle models and generations in its Kindle device safety and compliance information.

Amazon’s reviewed care guidance recommends keeping a cover on the Kindle when carrying it in a bag; it does not say a screen-protector film is necessary. A film is a separate accessory choice, not a substitute for covering the device during storage.

What Amazon’s guidance does—and does not—establish
Amazon’s official Kindle Paperwhite (11th Generation) instructions directly recommend a cover when carrying the device in a bag or briefcase. The Kindle (11th Generation) guide gives the same advice. The care pages reviewed do not establish scratch rates or compare protection among cases, sleeves, films, or different bag arrangements, so there is no evidence here that one option performs better in every situation.
