If OBS crashes, YouTube cannot keep receiving new audio and video from that encoder. Restart OBS, reconnect it to the correct YouTube event, and start streaming again; viewers may experience a gap. OBS’s automatic reconnect can recover from a connection interruption, but it does not relaunch OBS after the application itself crashes.

What happens when OBS crashes?
OBS encodes and sends the live feed to YouTube. When the OBS process stops, it stops sending new live audio and video; YouTube cannot continue the feed from that crashed process. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key to connect the encoder to the event (YouTube encoder setup).
OBS automatic reconnect is intended for a connection interruption, not an application crash. A full restart needs a person or a separately configured restart mechanism. OBS lists --startstreaming as a launch parameter, but that alone is not a complete watchdog or a guarantee of seamless recovery. Any automation must be configured and tested on the computer and event you plan to use (OBS overview; OBS launch parameters).

Set up a Hindi podcast playlist in OBS
1. Create or schedule the YouTube event
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the live stream. Keep the event’s stream settings available. You can reuse a previous stream’s settings, including its stream key and auto-start/auto-stop selections, but verify the copied details before broadcasting (YouTube stream settings).
Treat the stream key as a password: do not share or publish it. If you reset the key, update the encoder configuration to match before trying to stream (YouTube stream settings; YouTube live troubleshooting).

2. Connect OBS to the event
In OBS, select YouTube as the service if it is available in your version, or enter YouTube’s server URL and the event’s stream key in the stream settings. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover both connection approaches (YouTube encoder setup).

- Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well.
- In the OBS scene, add a VLC Video Source and select the Hindi podcast files in the order you want them to play.
- Set Loop Playlist to On. Decide whether shuffle should be on or off, then verify the order by previewing the source.
- For one local audio or video file rather than a playlist, add a Media Source and enable its Loop option.
OBS documents VLC playlists and single-file media sources in its Media Sources guide. Add the media and any intended audio sources to the scene; OBS scenes can combine different source types (OBS sources guide).

4. Configure reconnect and protect a local archive
In OBS, open Settings > Advanced and configure Automatically Reconnect for connection failures. This setting does not restart the OBS application after a crash (OBS overview).
Consider recording locally as a separate archive. Choose a recording path with enough free space and confirm during a test that the file is being created and growing. A local recording can preserve a copy of the material, but it cannot keep YouTube live while OBS is down. YouTube recommends checking the local archive and stream health before and during a broadcast (YouTube live tips).

What to do immediately after OBS crashes
- Restart OBS. If a restart mechanism is configured, make sure it opened the intended profile and scene collection and did not create an unintended duplicate instance.
- Check the event and encoder settings. Confirm that OBS is using the correct YouTube service or server, the intended scheduled event, and its matching stream key. If you reset the key, update OBS to use the new one.
- Start streaming again. Start from OBS or use a restart workflow you have already tested.
- Check YouTube’s preview. In Live Control Room, confirm that the encoder feed appears. Then check the event’s watch page and verify that the expected audio and video are playing. YouTube recommends previewing the feed and checking event accessibility (YouTube live tips).
- Check the recording and stream health. Confirm the local archive is intact and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators. A recovered stream can have a gap; do not assume viewers missed nothing.

Check connection capacity and YouTube eligibility
YouTube’s guidance says total streaming bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% upload headroom. That 20% is operational guidance, not a measured performance guarantee (YouTube network guidance). If OBS appears connected but viewers are not receiving the stream, check outbound connectivity and the encoder dashboard as well as OBS; YouTube troubleshooting distinguishes encoder health from internet upload problems (YouTube live troubleshooting).

YouTube’s live-streaming start guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet the minimum age of 16. Requirements and interfaces can change, so confirm current eligibility in Live Control Room before scheduling (YouTube live streaming eligibility).

Confirm rights to the podcast material
Being able to loop files in OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast them. Before streaming, confirm that you have the necessary rights for every podcast episode, music track, and piece of artwork in the playlist. Technical setup guides do not determine whether a particular Hindi podcast or recording is licensed for continuous live use.
