The key is a credential for your encoder’s outgoing feed; the Airtel IP address belongs to the internet connection. If the broadband session drops during an address change, the encoder may lose its connection to YouTube—but that is a connectivity interruption, not a reason to reset a working stream key.
What changes—and what does not
For an encoder-based YouTube Live stream, your computer or hardware encoder sends video out to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key copied from YouTube Live Control Room. The stream key is like a password for that feed. Airtel’s assigned WAN address is separate: it is part of the connection your encoder uses to reach YouTube.
- If only the IP address changes and the internet session stays up: the encoder may continue streaming without any change to YouTube settings.
- If the broadband session drops or becomes unstable during the change: the encoder can lose its connection to YouTube’s ingest server. YouTube Help notes, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.”
- If the feed does not resume after connectivity returns: check the encoder’s connection status and YouTube Live Control Room before changing credentials.
Airtel’s public broadband information does not establish whether a particular church line uses a public dynamic IP, CGNAT, or a static IP. Allocation and plan terms may vary by account and location. If you need to know how your line is configured, ask Airtel about that specific connection through its broadband plans and support channels.
Stabilize the outgoing stream before the service
Measure upload capacity under real conditions
Test the venue’s upload speed while the normal devices and activities are in use, not just when the church is empty. The stream depends on upload capacity, and advertised download speed does not tell you whether the outgoing feed has enough room. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom for the total stream bitrate, including primary and backup streams where applicable. Treat this as an operational recommendation, not a guarantee against outages.

Choose encoder settings that fit the connection
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations for your codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube’s table lists 5 Mbps as the recommended minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended setting for 1080p at 30 fps; for 720p at 30 fps, it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. These are not universal targets: higher frame rates, different codecs, and other resolutions change the bitrate requirement.
If the venue cannot sustain the chosen bitrate with the recommended headroom, lower the stream’s resolution or bitrate and test again. A stable, watchable feed is more useful than settings the connection cannot consistently support.

Watch stream health during rehearsal
OBS Project explains that dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server; too many dropped frames can disconnect the encoder. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, recommends leaving Bind to IP at Default as a troubleshooting baseline. OBS also offers dynamic bitrate adjustment as a fallback: it can reduce bitrate during congestion, but picture quality may fall and the underlying connection problem remains.
Rehearse YouTube’s full live workflow
- At least two hours before the event: set up and check the encoder, audio, camera, network connection, stream URL, and stream key. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours in advance.
- At least 15 minutes before the event: start the encoder and check the stream preview and health in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends starting encoders at least 15 minutes before an event.
- Use representative content: test with the service’s normal audio and amount of motion, since these affect encoding and the required bitrate.
- Confirm the viewer-facing result: check the preview before using the applicable Go Live workflow. Confirm sound, picture, and stream status rather than relying only on the encoder’s local preview.
- Check the recording: verify that the local recording works if you are making one, and know where it is being saved.
For a backup encoder, test the actual failover rather than assuming it will work. YouTube recommends stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable during a test, then confirming that the player switches to the backup.

Recover if Airtel connectivity drops
- Check whether the venue’s internet connection is back and whether the encoder reports that it is connected.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for the incoming feed and stream health. Allow the encoder to reconnect if it is configured to do so.
- If the encoder remains disconnected, restart its connection using the existing stream URL and key, then verify the preview and the appropriate Go Live state in YouTube.
- If YouTube reports an encoder-start error, follow its streaming troubleshooting steps. YouTube suggests refreshing the stream key for certain encoder-start errors; do not reset a working key solely because Airtel changed the IP address.
- If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key. Keep the key private because it authorizes the feed.
To use a reusable credential, YouTube allows you to create a custom stream key. A key reset is for credential or specific setup problems, not a routine response to an ISP address change.

Usually, neither is the first fix for this particular encoder-to-YouTube path. DDNS keeps a name pointed at an address so someone can reach a service from outside. The documented YouTube encoder workflow is an outbound feed from your venue to YouTube, so DDNS is not a demonstrated remedy for an interrupted outgoing stream.

A static IP may matter if you have a separate need for inbound access or a contractual network configuration, but the available Airtel information does not establish that your line needs one to stream to YouTube. Do not buy a static-IP service based only on an IP change interrupting a feed. Ask Airtel about your exact line if an inbound-access requirement or static address is genuinely involved.
When the church needs more resilience
First identify what can fail: the encoder, the broadband connection, or power. YouTube supports testing backup encoders, but the reviewed guidance does not establish a particular Airtel failover configuration, router, or secondary-ISP product. Any backup should be tested at the church, with attention to independent connectivity, real upload performance, compatibility with the existing encoder and YouTube workflow, recovery time, and recurring cost. A second path that depends on the same Airtel connection is not independent protection against an Airtel outage.
