Change the playlist order or shuffle setting in the software that selects and plays tracks for your live broadcast. YouTube receives the encoded stream; shuffling a viewer-side YouTube playlist does not rearrange music already being sent live.
Why tracks play in alphabetical order
A 24/7 YouTube music stream is an encoded live broadcast. The playback source—such as OBS, a radio automation application, an FFmpeg script, or a cloud playout service—chooses the next track before the encoder sends the audio and video to YouTube. If that source sorts files by filename or titles alphabetically, the broadcast follows that order.
That means there is no universal YouTube viewer-side shuffle switch for rearranging tracks inside an existing live broadcast. Change the ordering where the playlist is created and played.

Change the order in your playout source
- Identify what is playing the tracks. Check whether the playlist is managed in OBS, radio automation software, an FFmpeg script, or a cloud playout service. Change the playlist at that source, not in a separate YouTube playlist.
- Inspect how it builds the track list. If it sorts files or titles alphabetically, disable that sorting option if available. Alternatively, drag tracks into a deliberate order or create a shuffled playlist before playback.
- Enable shuffle if the source supports it. Check the tool’s help or settings to learn when the order changes. For example, playout.video says its shuffle randomizes items after each full loop pass; that behavior is specific to that provider and should not be assumed for other tools.
- Check whether a change applies during playback. Some tools may wait until the current track, playlist, or loop ends before applying a new order. Confirm the behavior in the selected software so you know whether changing the setting will interrupt or affect the current broadcast.
- Preview the rotation before relying on it. Use a short private or unlisted check and listen to several transitions. Confirm the order changes as intended and that the playlist continues into another pass.
Choose how the 24/7 stream will play
The ordering fix depends on the playout system you use. Compare options by playlist control, when reshuffling occurs, recovery after a process or connection failure, monitoring needs, and total cost.

There is no established neutral benchmark that identifies one approach as best for every channel. Choose based on how much playlist control and operational work you need.
What YouTube’s stream settings do—and do not do
YouTube’s live setup and ingest configuration govern how an encoder sends a broadcast to the platform; they do not choose the order of the tracks playing in that broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance covers channel setup and eligibility. Its HLS documentation describes ingest details such as segment duration and rolling playlists, and notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. These transport details do not change musical order.

Keep the broadcast reliable and rights-cleared
- Keep the local playback process and computer running if you use a local setup, or ensure the remote server or cloud service remains active.
- Monitor the live broadcast and the playlist, especially after changing its order or shuffle behavior.
- Use music you have the rights to broadcast continuously. A track being available online does not establish permission to use it in a 24/7 live stream.
- Check YouTube’s current eligibility and live-stream setup requirements for your channel before configuring the broadcast.
