You can run a 24/7 mantra livestream from an Indian VPS by looping authorized media with FFmpeg and sending the output to YouTube Live over RTMPS. Configure YouTube’s recommended constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, then use a process supervisor such as systemd to restart FFmpeg if it exits. This can recover an encoder process; it cannot guarantee that the VPS, its network, your media or YouTube’s ingest stays available.
What you need before you start
- A Linux VPS with enough sustained outbound bandwidth for a continuous video feed. Check its region, network terms, included transfer, storage, CPU limits and overage charges before buying.
- A local video file or playlist that you have the rights to stream, including rights to its audio and visuals.
- A YouTube channel eligible to go live. YouTube says first-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours.
- FFmpeg installed on the VPS, plus a service manager such as systemd to start and restart the encoder.
No current India-region VPS plan or price is established here, so a particular provider cannot responsibly be called the cheapest or recommended as suitable for continuous streaming. An always-on feed uses outbound transfer continuously; verify the provider’s current bandwidth allowance and sustained-use terms directly.
Configure YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream and open its stream settings.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Configure the encoder for constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube allows no more than four seconds.
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codecs, AAC or MP3 audio, and frame rates up to 60 fps. For a straightforward FFmpeg setup, H.264 with AAC is a practical choice. YouTube’s H.264 bitrate guidance includes these examples:

These figures are for H.264 in YouTube’s encoder guidance; other codec columns have different values. Do not assume a nearly static image makes a lower bitrate acceptable. Test the actual audio and visuals and check YouTube’s stream health before relying on the setup.

Loop a video with FFmpeg
Install FFmpeg using the package manager for your VPS’s Linux distribution, then put the media file somewhere persistent, for example /srv/mantra/mantra.mp4. The following command loops that file, encodes H.264/AAC and sends it to the YouTube ingest URL. Replace the example ingest address and key with the values from YouTube Studio.

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR-YOUTUBE-INGEST-URL/YOUR-STREAM-KEY"This example is 30 fps with a two-second GOP (60 frames), and its 4 Mbps video setting is within YouTube’s cited H.264 recommendation for 480p at 30 fps. Match resolution and bitrate to the source and the stream quality you want; for 720p or 1080p, use the corresponding YouTube H.264 guidance above. The command assumes a file with an audio stream. If your file has no audio, omit the audio mapping/encoding as appropriate; confirm the resulting output in YouTube Studio rather than assuming silence or a missing audio track will behave as intended.

Use a playlist instead
For a sequence of files, create an FFmpeg concat input list with the files in the intended order. A concat demuxer list can look like this:

file '/srv/mantra/part2.mp4'Save it as /srv/mantra/playlist.txt and use -f concat -safe 0 -i /srv/mantra/playlist.txt in place of the single-file input. The files should have compatible stream properties; mismatches can cause playback or encoding problems. Test the transitions before leaving the feed unattended.

Keep FFmpeg running with systemd
A process supervisor can launch FFmpeg at boot and restart it after an unexpected process exit. It does not repair an unavailable VPS, network route, source file or YouTube ingest endpoint.
- Create a systemd unit, for example
/etc/systemd/system/mantra-stream.service, and put the FFmpeg command in itsExecStartline. Avoid putting a stream key in a broadly readable file; restrict permissions and access to the unit. - Set
Restart=alwaysand a shortRestartSec=5under the service section, and run the service as a dedicated, non-root user with read access to the media. - Reload units and enable/start the service:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl enable --now mantra-stream.service - Check whether the service is running and inspect recent logs:
systemctl status mantra-stream.service journalctl -u mantra-stream.service -n 100 --no-pager
Use the logs to distinguish encoder exits from connection failures. A restart loop may repeatedly retry a bad stream key, unreadable file or unreachable ingest without restoring service. Confirm recovery in YouTube Studio’s stream health.

Test the stream and understand its limits
- Start with a representative section of the actual mantra recording, including audio and any visual changes. Check that YouTube receives video and audio and reports healthy stream status.
- Confirm that the VPS has enough outbound capacity for the chosen bitrate over sustained operation. The encoder’s configured video bitrate is not the whole transfer requirement: audio, protocol overhead and any retries add traffic.
- Keep the source file and configuration available after reboots. Ensure the media path, file permissions and service unit remain valid.
- Plan around YouTube’s archive boundary: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The documentation does not establish that an indefinitely running session will remain one uninterrupted recording.
Protect copyright and monetization eligibility
Verify permission for every recording, image and other asset in the stream. A mantra or devotional subject does not make a particular recording free to use. YouTube’s monetization rules are separate from copyright enforcement: permission to use material does not by itself satisfy reused-content eligibility.
YouTube’s 15 July 2025 policy clarification describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content.” Highly repetitive content with little variation or added value can be ineligible for monetization. This does not determine the status of any specific mantra stream; review the channel’s content and the applicable policy before relying on monetization.

Budget for the VPS beyond its headline price
Compare the instance charge with the cost and limits that matter for an always-on outbound encoder: India-region availability, sustained CPU and network terms, included transfer, storage, bandwidth caps and overage rates. A low monthly server price can be misleading if continuous egress is restricted or billed separately. No like-for-like current VPS plan prices are established here.
Google Cloud Live Stream API is a different managed encoding and delivery product, billed according to active channel time and configuration such as resolution and codec; its pricing is not a proxy for renting a small VPS to run FFmpeg.
Troubleshooting
