To keep a church livestream running through load shedding, back up power for every device in the local stream chain—not just the camera or computer—and separately plan for internet outages. A UPS or inverter can power equipment at the church, but it cannot restore an ISP connection that has gone down. Map your setup, measure its load, choose backup for your target runtime, and test the complete public stream before relying on it.
Map every device the stream depends on
Start at the sound and picture sources and follow the signal all the way to the internet. A typical chain may include cameras, audio equipment, an encoder or streaming computer, a modem, a router, and any switches or other network devices in between. Your actual setup may differ, so check which devices must remain on for the broadcast to reach YouTube.
For a hired-agency webcast, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) says the venue needs audio-video equipment and an encoder capable of publishing the stream. Its guidance is specific to that webcast service; it is not a universal specification for every church’s self-operated stream. NIC webcast guidance
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBack up power for the whole local chain
Keep the encoder or streaming computer and the modem and router powered for the stream to continue. Backing up only the camera, for example, will not help if the computer sending the video loses power. Likewise, a powered computer cannot publish if the network equipment it relies on shuts down.

List each required device and include it in your backup plan. Check the full path at the church rather than assuming that a particular device is the only critical one. A UPS may be suitable for some equipment or shorter interruptions; an inverter and battery may be considered where the intended runtime or site needs call for a different arrangement. Compare options against measured load, target runtime, compatibility, installation needs, and current local quotes—there is no universal capacity or runtime established for every church.
Plan separately for internet outages
Power backup addresses electricity for equipment at the venue. It does not keep an ISP connection available if that connection itself fails. A second ISP or mobile broadband may help only if it is available at the church and provides a meaningfully independent route or infrastructure. The Department of Telecommunications describes internet access as being delivered through technologies such as fibre optics, DSL, and wireless broadband, but that does not establish which provider, technology, or resilient route is available at your location. - 1500VA / 900W RELIABLE BACKUP POWER: The highest VA capacity available for home use; delivers short-term battery power to keep essential devices powered during blackouts, surges, and unexpected power interruptions
- TEN PROTECTED OUTLETS: Power your entire setup with 5 battery backup outlets for essential devices, and 5 surge-only outlets for peripherals. Plus built-in coaxial and Ethernet surge protection for added peace of mind
- AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATION (AVR): Corrects low voltage brownouts (88V+) and surges (+/-13%) without draining battery. Boosts or trims to stable 120V. Extends runtime for blackouts; Active PFC compatible for gaming PCs
- REPLACEABLE BATTERY & ENERGY STAR UPS: User-replaceable battery (APCRBC124, sold separately) for zero-downtime swaps. ENERGY STAR certified for 92%+ efficiency, cutting energy costs vs standard UPS units
- LCD DISPLAY PANEL: Features an intuitive LCD screen that displays real-time status information including battery charge level, estimated runtime, load capacity, and input voltage for easy monitoring of your power protection system
Before relying on a secondary connection, check its signal inside the venue, data limits, failover behavior, and whether it is likely to remain available during the same outage. A second provider name alone does not prove that its local infrastructure is independent. Test the switchover with your actual stream.
Size and test backup for your church
- Write down the equipment: list every camera or audio device, encoder/computer, modem, router, and other device needed to publish.
- Establish the load: use the devices’ power requirements or appropriate measurements to determine what the backup must support. Do not choose capacity by guesswork.
- Set a runtime goal: decide how long the stream should continue through an outage, then check whether the proposed UPS or inverter-and-battery arrangement is compatible with that load and duration.
- Check the network plan: confirm venue availability and signal for any second ISP or mobile broadband, and identify how the stream will move to it if the primary connection fails.
- Test the complete public stream: run the intended backup configuration, confirm that viewers can still access the broadcast, and observe what happens when power or the primary connection is interrupted. Fix gaps before the next service.
NIC’s online guidance states a dedicated bandwidth requirement of 2–4 Mbps per stream for its hired-agency webcast scenario. The page does not state a publication year, and that figure should not be treated as a universal YouTube bitrate recommendation or a guarantee for a church’s internet connection. NIC also asks users of its government webcast service to request it at least two working days before an event; that timing is not a requirement for an ordinary self-operated church stream. Keep a backup way for viewers to find the stream
NIC advises government webcast users to retain the YouTube link as a backup option for signal issues. Keeping a link available can help viewers access a backup stream when one exists, but it does not restore your church’s power or network. Share the correct link through the channels your congregation already uses, and make sure any backup broadcast is actually available before directing viewers to it.

If your church’s stream uses uploaded recordings rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs without a computer or home connection staying on; the uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
