On PS4, open Minecraft and select Play > Servers, then choose an available featured server and select Join Server. PlayStation online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. The official PS4 guidance documents joining featured servers; it does not confirm that you can enter an arbitrary server address manually on this console.
Before you join: check online access and accounts
- PlayStation Plus: Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements say console players need a premium online subscription, and PlayStation identifies that subscription as PlayStation Plus. See Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements and its PlayStation servers and Realms announcement. Subscription terms can change; check PlayStation’s current account and subscription information if access is denied.
- Microsoft account: Link one if you want to play with friends on other platforms or join a Realm on PlayStation. Minecraft says one Microsoft account can be linked to one PSN account. Account linking alone does not enable manual access to arbitrary server addresses.
- Compatible game edition and version: Use the Bedrock multiplayer path, and make sure your game version is compatible with the server. Minecraft notes that preview builds may need to be replaced with a released game update.
Join a featured public server on PS4
- Launch Minecraft and select Play.
- Open the Servers tab. The list shows featured servers available to join.
- Select a server to view its details, then choose Join Server.
- Read and accept any on-screen prompts. If the server requires a resource pack, allow it to download before entering.
Minecraft’s server page lists featured Bedrock servers, and its server instructions explain the general joining flow. The available list may vary; select a server shown as available in your game.
Can you add a custom server address on PS4?
Minecraft’s general Bedrock instructions describe an Add Server option for entering a server name, address, and optional port on platforms that provide it. Those instructions do not establish that this manual-entry control is available in the PS4 version. For a PS4-specific route, use the featured servers shown in the Servers tab rather than assuming an external IP address can be entered.
Joining a friend’s world or Realm is different
A public featured server is a community-run destination you browse in the Servers tab. A Realm is a private world for invited players; Minecraft says it remains available when its owner is offline. If your goal is to play in a friend’s private world, use the invitation and Friends or Realm route rather than treating it as a public server. On PlayStation, Minecraft documents Microsoft-account linking as a requirement for joining Realms.

If the Servers tab or a server does not work
- Online play is unavailable: Check that the console is connected to the internet and that PlayStation Plus is active.
- You cannot find a particular server: Confirm it appears in the PS4 Servers tab. A server address from another source is not proof that the PS4 version supports manual entry.
- You cannot join a friend’s private world: Check that you have the correct invitation and, for a Realm on PlayStation, that your Microsoft account is linked to your PSN account.
- Joining fails after an update: Check for a released game update and confirm the server supports your game version. Minecraft’s general server guidance notes that server and game versions need to match; preview builds can cause compatibility issues.
Link a Microsoft account to PSN
- On the Minecraft title screen, select Sign in with a Microsoft account.
- Scan the displayed QR code or visit microsoft.com/link on another device.
- Enter the code shown in Minecraft and follow the account-linking prompts.
