There is no single worldwide League of Legends academy application or tryout. The practical route is to find the current official amateur or regional competition in your area, check its season rules, compete on a team, and follow teams’ current recruitment notices. Organized play can help you develop and become visible, but it does not guarantee a tryout, contract, salary, or pro career.
What an “academy” means in League of Legends
Academy is not one global admissions program. The name and structure depend on the region, organizer, competition tier, and season. For example, Riot and the Korea e-Sports Association described Korea’s 2020 LCK Academy Series as a prospect-identification tournament for amateur and academy-affiliated players. Its announcement distinguished that trainee-level event from a second division sharing a player pool with the professional league. Those were descriptions of that Korean competition, not a current worldwide format or a standing set of entry rules. Riot’s 2020 LCK Academy Series announcement
In a separate 2021 North American ecosystem update, Riot described third-party Tier 2 tournaments and amateur teams alongside Academy, with routes intended to support talent development toward Academy and LCS. That is historical context, not a current tournament calendar. Riot’s 2021 North American amateur ecosystem update
How to find a legitimate route in your region
- Start with official regional esports information. Look for your region’s current Riot esports page and the official organizer’s site or announcement. Confirm the competition name, season, dates, and whether it is an amateur league, tournament circuit, development event, or an actual team tryout.
- Check how players enter. Some competitions require a complete roster; others may have official ways to find teammates. Riot’s 2024 NLC guidance for the Nordics, UK, and Ireland directed teamless players to local looking-for-team channels. Treat that page as dated guidance and verify the current league structure and channels before using them. Riot’s 2024 NLC guidance
- Read the current rulebook and registration notice before applying. Confirm the season’s requirements and deadlines rather than relying on old posts or another region’s rules.
- Register through the organizer’s stated process and compete consistently. Save official results and keep your player details current so a team can assess your experience.
- Monitor academy and team recruitment channels. Apply only when a team or organizer posts a current process and follow its instructions. Playing in an amateur competition does not automatically submit you for an academy tryout.
What to check before you register or accept a tryout
Rules can change between regions and seasons. Before committing, check the official event page for:

- Whether the opportunity is development competition, a recruitment event, or a genuine roster tryout—and what, if anything, it promises.
Historical examples show why you should verify rather than generalize. The 2020 Korean Academy Series announcement listed age, rank, five-player registration, and eligibility exclusions for that event; those conditions do not establish what a Korean or other-region event requires today. Riot’s 2020 LCK Academy Series announcement Conversely, Riot’s announcement for Finnhouse’s Summer 2025 Finnish leagues said they accepted players of all ranks, required a full team, and offered a Discord route to find free agents or teammates. Its June 2025 deadlines have passed; it illustrates one organizer’s approach, not a current open registration. Riot’s Finnhouse Summer 2025 announcement
How to get a League of Legends tryout
There is no supported universal rank cutoff or application portal for academy tryouts. Check each team’s current recruitment notice for its region, age or residency rules, rank expectations, role needs, schedule, and application method. If a team is not advertising tryouts, do not assume that a high rank or tournament finish alone creates an invitation.

What the career path can—and cannot—promise
Regional amateur leagues and tournaments provide structured competition and can offer development or visibility opportunities. Riot’s 2020 Korean announcement framed its Academy Series around identifying prospects, while Riot’s 2021 North American update described an amateur ecosystem connected to Academy and LCS talent routes. Neither establishes that participation guarantees recruitment, a professional contract, income, or a stable career.
Think of the route as a series of opportunities rather than an automatic ladder: learn the local rules, find or form a roster, build a competitive record, and respond to a specific recruitment process when one exists. Requirements and access vary by region and season, so assess each opportunity on its current published terms.

The cited materials do not establish any particular mouse, keyboard, or mousepad as a tryout requirement.
