You can install the Brave Android browser through Brave’s official F-Droid-compatible repository, then use the F-Droid client to check for updates. Brave Origin is a separate matter: Brave describes it on Android as an upgrade inside the existing Brave app, not a standalone F-Droid app. Here’s how to handle each flow without confusing the browser download with Origin activation.
What you can install from F-Droid
Brave’s official F-Droid-compatible repository distributes the Brave Android browser. Brave’s Origin instructions, by contrast, describe Origin on Android as an upgrade to the existing Brave app for Android 1.91 and above. The sources do not identify a separate “Brave Origin” Android app in F-Droid. Brave announced its F-Droid repository on June 27, 2025: Brave’s F-Droid announcement. Install Brave through the F-Droid client
1. Install F-Droid
Follow F-Droid’s official installation instructions. F-Droid recommends installing its client from the APK option for most users. Android may ask you to allow the app opening the APK to install unknown apps; later, it may ask you to permit F-Droid itself to install apps. On first launch, F-Droid downloads its repository, which its documentation says can take 2 to 10 minutes depending on connection speed.
2. Add Brave’s official release repository
In the F-Droid client, add Brave’s repository using the URL shown on Brave’s official release repository page:

The repository page provides a QR code, identifies the source as Brave Browser’s official repository, and says it currently serves one app. F-Droid’s screen labels can change, so use the client’s repository-management controls rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

3. Verify the repository fingerprint
Before treating the repository as official, compare its SHA-256 fingerprint in F-Droid with the release fingerprint Brave publishes:

Brave lists repository fingerprints on its signing keys page. Match the release repository to the release fingerprint; Brave also publishes separate fingerprints for beta and nightly repositories.
4. Install Brave
After F-Droid refreshes the repository, find Brave in the client and install it from that source. Brave says its F-Droid and Google Play builds are built from the same source code and that Brave maintains the repository so supported versions and updates are delivered promptly. This does not establish that every build is byte-for-byte identical.

Check whether F-Droid offers a Brave update
Open the F-Droid client’s updates area and look for an update for Brave. F-Droid tracks available updates and can notify you; automatic installation is optional. Its client also checks repository index signatures and APK hashes. The app’s description says the client makes it easy to “browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device.” See F-Droid’s app page and its update notification guidance.
If no notification appears, that does not necessarily prove no newer version exists. F-Droid explains that a newer version may appear in an app’s versions list without being recommended for installation; test or beta builds can be newer than the recommended version. Third-party repository maintainers may also fail to update metadata. These are general F-Droid behaviors, not evidence of Brave’s current release cadence. See F-Droid’s recommended-version guidance.

F-Droid client versus a direct APK

Activate Brave Origin inside Brave on Android
If by “install Brave Origin” you mean the Origin feature, first install or open the existing Brave Android app. Then follow Brave’s current in-app flow: go to All Settings > General > Origin, complete the purchase or verify an existing purchase, and restart Brave. Brave’s instructions say the purchase route may take you to the Play Store. This is an in-app feature activation flow, not an instruction to find a separate Origin browser package in F-Droid.
