To download an app on a TCL TV, first identify its platform: Google TV, Android TV, Roku TV, or Fire TV. Then use that platform’s app store. Google TV uses Search or the Apps tab and the Install button; Android TV uses Google Play Store; Roku TV uses Streaming apps and an add-channel option; Fire TV uses Appstore or Search and Get or Download. The menus differ, and an app must be available for your TV’s platform and region.
Identify your TCL TV’s platform
Do not assume every TCL TV has the same app store. Check the platform name shown on the TV’s home screen or in its settings/about information, then follow the matching instructions below. TCL documents separate installation flows for Google TV and Android TV, Roku TV, and Fire TV; exact menu labels can vary by model, region, and software version.
Install an app on TCL Google TV
- From the home screen, select Search or press the Assistant button and say or type the app’s name.
- Choose the matching search result. If the app is available, its page appears; select Install.
- Alternatively, open the Apps tab, browse categories, choose an app or game, and follow the on-screen prompts.
To remove an app, open Apps, find it under Your apps, open its details, and select Uninstall. TCL says apps added on a TV with multiple profiles are available across profiles except kids’ profiles.

Install an app on TCL Android TV
- From the home screen, open Apps.
- Select Google Play Store.
- Browse or search for the app or game, then select its result.
- Follow the prompts to install it or complete a purchase.
To manage installed apps or available updates, use the relevant app-management options in Settings or Google Play Store. Menu layouts can differ: TCL’s support instructions include Android TV steps on a page titled for Google TV, so follow the labels visible on your particular model rather than expecting identical screens.

Add an app or channel on TCL Roku TV
- Press Home on the remote.
- Scroll to Streaming apps to open the store.
- Choose Search apps, enter the app or channel name, and select the matching result.
- Choose the option to add it. Enter your Roku account PIN if prompted.
TCL also describes adding apps through the Roku mobile app or Roku account website. Apps added to a TCL Roku TV are also added to other streaming devices associated with that Roku account.
Install an app on TCL Fire TV
- Press Home.
- Open Appstore, or use Find or Search.
- Search for the app and select it.
- Choose Get or Download. After installation, open it from the apps list on the home screen.
This flow applies to TCL Fire TV and its Amazon Appstore interface.

If you cannot find or use the app
The app does not appear in search
Check that the TV has an internet connection and that the app is offered for your TV’s platform and region. App availability depends on platform and app-provider decisions. A phone or computer version of an app does not necessarily mean a TV version is available.

The app installs but asks for payment or a login
Installing an app is separate from signing in to or subscribing to the service it provides. Some services require their own account or paid subscription. On Roku TV, a Roku account is used to add free and purchased channels; a Roku PIN may also be requested during the add flow.

The app freezes, buffers, or will not open
For TCL Roku TV, TCL recommends working through these checks before considering a factory reset:
- Check that the TV is connected to the network.
- Check for updates to the app and the TV’s system software.
- If appropriate, sign out of the app and sign back in.
- Check the service account or subscription status, and see whether the app provider reports an outage.
- If the problem affects only one app, remove and reinstall that app.
A factory reset is a last resort: TCL warns that it erases downloaded apps, account sign-ins, settings, and preferences.
