You can try DLSS 5-style effects in games with Borderless Gaming, a Steam app, by installing a separate community effect, choosing a preset, and applying it to a game. The effect is not included by default, and this BGFX-based workaround is not the same as a game with native NVIDIA DLSS 5 support.

What you need to know before installing

Borderless Gaming’s developer announced on September 29, 2026, that DLSS5 Neural Rendering was available as an effect for the app. The developer describes a workflow that does not replace game DLLs or modify game files. The app and effect are separate: install Borderless Gaming from its Steam listing, then get the effect from the BGFX DLSS5 Neural Rendering repository.

This is a community rendering effect using Borderless Gaming’s BGFX pipeline, not an official integration shipped with a game. A game’s built-in DLSS feature and this effect are therefore different implementations. The developer’s Steam announcement says to install the effect, select a preset, and apply it to a game.

How to install and apply the effect

  1. Install Borderless Gaming. Find Borderless Gaming on Steam and install it. The Steam listing identifies the app; it does not mean the separate DLSS5 effect is already installed.
  2. Install the effect from its repository. Open the effect’s GitHub repository and follow its current installation instructions. Borderless Gaming’s announcement says effects and presets can be installed by pasting a repository URL, downloading, and applying them. The exact controls may vary by app version, so use the labels shown in your installed build rather than assuming a particular menu path.
  3. Choose a preset. In Borderless Gaming, select the installed DLSS5 Neural Rendering effect and the preset you want to try.
  4. Apply it to the target game. Select the game in the app and apply the effect. Check the result in that game; the developer’s high-level instructions do not establish a universal, game-by-game setup or result.

Is this native DLSS 5, and will it work on your setup?

No: applying this community effect through Borderless Gaming does not establish that a game supports native DLSS 5. It is a separate BGFX-pipeline workaround, and its visual results and performance can vary. The available sources do not provide a complete authoritative compatibility list for GPUs and games, so do not assume a particular card or title will work well. Check the current repository instructions and test the effect in the specific game you intend to use.
