Use page.injectJs() for a JavaScript file stored on the PhantomJS host. PhantomJS’s page.includeJs(url, callback) loads a script from a URL that the hosted page can reach. A host-local path such as assets/javascript/jquery.min.js is a filesystem path, not a page URL, so it is the wrong API for that job.
The reliable pattern is to open the page, call injectJs(), check its Boolean result, then run page code in page.evaluate(). Keep phantom.exit() until all loading and evaluation work has finished.

Use includeJs() when the library is genuinely remote. Use injectJs() when the file exists only on the machine running PhantomJS.
Recommended pattern for a local file
This complete script loads a page, injects a local library, verifies a value in the page context, and exits only after the work is done.

phantomjs capture.jsIf the library is present and loaded, the example prints function. A missing file or an unresolved path makes injectJs() return false, prints the error message, and exits cleanly.
What each stage does
- Create a page:
require('webpage').create()returns the page object whose DOM and scripts PhantomJS controls. - Open the target:
page.open()invokes its callback with a status. Do not inject into a page that did not load successfully. - Inject the file:
page.injectJs(filename)reads a host-local file and inserts its code into the page. Its documented result is Boolean:truefor success andfalsefor failure. - Evaluate in page context: Functions passed to
page.evaluate()run inside the loaded page, where globals created by the injected script are available. - Exit last: Call
phantom.exit()only after injection, evaluation, and logging are complete.
How PhantomJS resolves a local filename
A relative filename is resolved from the process’s current working directory and then PhantomJS’s phantom.libraryPath. It is not resolved relative to the JavaScript file itself. That distinction explains why a script can work when launched from one directory and fail when launched from another.
Use an absolute path when the launch directory varies
If a scheduler, service, or build tool can start PhantomJS from an unpredictable directory, pass an absolute filename to injectJs(). This removes ambiguity at the cost of making the script less portable between machines.

Use libraryPath deliberately
When a shared layout is appropriate, configure phantom.libraryPath so relative injections resolve from a known library directory. Make that setting before calling injectJs(), and document the directory expected by whoever launches the process.
Verify the file before debugging page code
Check the path, filename case, permissions, and working directory first. A successful page load does not imply that PhantomJS can read a local file.
Loading a remote script with includeJs()
For a script hosted at a URL, includeJs() is the correct API. Its callback runs after the external script has been included.

Chaining more than one remote file
When one remote library depends on another, load them in sequence by starting the next includeJs() call from the previous callback. This makes the dependency order explicit and keeps the final exit in the last callback.

});Why a local path fails with includeJs()
includeJs() is documented around a URL, usually a remote location. When you pass assets/javascript/jquery.min.js, PhantomJS treats it as something the hosted page should fetch, not as a file to read from the PhantomJS machine. The remote page has no automatic access to that host filesystem path.
Switch the call to injectJs(), make the path resolvable from the launch directory or phantom.libraryPath, and check the return value before using the library.
Using the injected library safely
Keep page code inside evaluate()
Host-side PhantomJS code and page-side JavaScript run in different contexts. Use page.evaluate() for DOM operations and for reading globals established by the injected file.

page.evaluate() can return simple values such as strings, numbers, Booleans, arrays, and plain objects. Do not expect a DOM node or a page-side library object to cross the boundary intact; extract the property or data you need inside the evaluation function.
Inject after page.open()
Injecting after a successful page.open() ensures the script runs in the intended document. It also lets you stop early when the network request fails instead of reporting a misleading library error.
