If noise cancellation seems weak on Nothing Headphone (1) Pro, start by checking the ANC mode in Nothing X and making sure both ear cushions form a close, even seal. If calls sound noisy, remember that call-microphone processing is separate from the noise cancellation you hear. These checks address the main documented causes; they cannot guarantee the same result in every fit or call environment.
Make sure the ear cushions seal around your ears
A poor fit can reduce or even negate noise cancellation. Nothing advises checking that the cushions are fitted tightly, so reseat the headphones and check both sides rather than assuming ANC is faulty. Hair, glasses, or a displaced cushion may interfere with the contact around your ears.
Nothing’s support guidance is direct: “If the ear cushions are not fitted tightly, poor seal can reduce or negate the noise cancellation effect.” Nothing’s ANC troubleshooting steps explain the fit check.
Check the ANC mode in Nothing X
Open Nothing X and go to Noise Control. Nothing Support lists High, Medium, Low, and Adaptive modes for Headphone (1) Pro. Try the available modes in the place where cancellation feels weak; there is no universally best mode established for every environment or listener.
#1 Best Overall
- Triple Driver Architecture: Experience balanced, detailed audio with Nothing Headphone (1) Pro wireless headphones, built around a dedicated three-driver system featuring a 40 mm bass driver, precision driver, and treble XMEMS driver. Each driver is engineered to handle part of the frequency range, working together to unlock deeper bass, sharper vocals and richer textures across music, gaming, and more.
- Certified Hi-Res Audio for wireless and wired listening: Enjoy high-quality wireless audio with LDAC, or connect via USB-C for lossless, high-fidelity playback at up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
- 10-Mic Real-time Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation: Nothing Headphone (1) Pro delivers up to 46 dB of Active Noise Cancellation with 10 microphones and a new silicone sound seal. Ten microphones monitor your surroundings and automatically adjust noise cancellation in real time to reduce unwanted background noise. A new 8 mm silicone wall baffle wall inside the ear cushion provides passive isolation, while Transparency Mode lets you hear your surroundings when needed.
- Studio-Level Tuning with Metropolis Studios: Nothing partnered with Metropolis Studios, home to some of the world’s most influential audio engineers, to bring studio-level tools to Nothing Headphone (1) Pro noise cancelling headphone. Listen to the raw track with Flat EQ for reviewing music, producing or mixing, discover new EQ Profiles and feel what it's like to listen in a recording studio through a unique Dynamic Spatial Audio mode.
- Spatial Audio & Advanced EQ: Dynamic Spatial Audio has five modes: Standard, Studio B, Live House, Club and Concert Hall. Advanced EQ gives you precise control over your sound, letting you drag tuning points across multiple drivers.
When you first put the headphones on or switch to ANC Strong, give the system 7–15 seconds to converge before judging the effect. This is the FIR convergence time stated by Nothing Support, not a general waiting time for every mode or situation.
Understand what the ANC and call processing do
ANC affects outside sound heard by you. For calls, Nothing describes Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) as processing unwanted background noise picked up by the microphones. The company says Headphone (1) Pro has two microphones on each side for this call-focused processing. Nothing’s product page also advertises up to 46 dB of ANC; that is a manufacturer maximum-depth claim, not a guarantee of the reduction you will experience across frequencies, fits, or users.

If someone says your call sounds noisy, ask whether they mean your outgoing voice. A problem with the noise you hear yourself is not the same as a problem with the microphone signal they receive. ENC is intended to reduce background noise in calls; the cited feature information does not describe it as a control for improving what you hear through ANC. See Nothing Support’s explanation of ENC.

If the fit and mode checks do not help
Contact official support with a description of the mode selected, how the cushions fit, and whether the issue affects listening ANC, outgoing call audio, or both. The cited Nothing guidance establishes fit and settings checks, but does not establish a universal firmware fix.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much should you expect calls to improve?
TechRadar’s reviewer reported that callers found the reviewer’s voice clear during a windy-day test on the Dorset coastline. That is one reviewer’s reported experience, not a controlled benchmark or a promise for every room, phone, calling app, or network. Nothing says its Clear Voice Technology was trained on thirty million scenarios; this is a manufacturer statement, not an independently verified population study.
