First, tap the video’s sound label in Snapchat if one is visible. If it does not reveal the song—or there is no label—play the clip and use Shazam to identify the audio, then open the result in Spotify or Apple Music if that option is available.

Check Snapchat’s sound label first

On a Spotlight video, look for a sound name or trending-sound context card. Snapchat says these cards display a music icon and sound name; tapping one opens other posts that use the same sound. Snapchat is rolling the cards out gradually, and they are available only in some countries, so a missing card does not mean the video has no music. Snapchat explains Context Cards.

If the Snap shows a Sound pill or a sound name at the bottom, tap it. Snapchat says a Spotlight Snap’s sound opens its Sound Topic page. That can be useful for finding the audio’s Snapchat label and other posts using it, but a label is not proof that the audio is an officially released song. Snapchat uses “Sounds” for both music and recordings made with its Sounds tool. See Snapchat’s instructions for adding music to a Snap.

Identify an unlabeled song with Shazam

Let the Snapchat video play with the relevant audio audible, then open Shazam and tap its recognition button. Apple documents Shazam recognition for music playing in other apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android. Its instructions cover other apps generally; they do not guarantee that every Snapchat clip, device, or operating-system setup will be recognized. Read Apple’s Shazam identification instructions.

On iPhone or iPad: use Control Center

You can identify audio without switching away from Snapchat by adding Music Recognition to Control Center. Start the video, open Control Center, and tap the Shazam/Music Recognition control while the song is playing. Apple also documents asking Siri to identify a song playing around you.

On Android: use the Shazam app

Play the video, switch to Shazam, and tap the recognition button. Keep the Snapchat audio playing clearly while Shazam listens. The documented feature recognizes music from other apps on Android, though results depend on the audio sample and configuration.

Improve the sample if Shazam cannot identify it

Try again with a longer, clearer section of the video. Choose a moment with less speech or background noise, and make sure the song is audible from the device while Shazam listens. Short clips, heavy remixes, sped-up audio, muffled sound, or user-created recordings may not produce a match.

Open the identified track in Spotify or Apple Music

After Shazam identifies a track, open it in Spotify or Apple Music if the relevant option is shown. Apple documents connecting Shazam with supported streaming services and opening identified songs in a chosen app. You can also sync recognized songs to a Spotify playlist called “My Shazam Tracks”; Apple describes Apple Music syncing separately. Service availability and some features vary by country or region. Apple’s guide to using Shazam with music services and instructions for listening to identified songs in Spotify and other apps explain the options.

  • WHAT'S IN THE BOX: 4016 headset with a 4 ft (1.2 m) cW-style cable, windscreen and a YPA carrying case. Made for pastors and preachers, teachers, fitness instructors, presenters, theater and live events - a clear-sounding replacement for the headset that came with your Audio-Technica system.

Song recognition and full playback are separate: Shazam may identify a track even if listening to the complete recording requires access to the selected music service. Snapchat also describes a Linkfire integration that can connect a Featured Sound in a Snap or Story to a preferred streaming platform. That is a route for sounds with the integration, not a way to recognize arbitrary unlabeled video audio. Snapchat’s Spotify integration, by contrast, lets users share currently playing music on Snap Map. Details are in Snapchat’s overview of integration partners and features.

Which method should you use?

Route Best for What it tells you Limitation
Snapchat sound label or Sound Topic page A video with a visible label, especially in Spotlight The Snapchat sound name and, for a trending-sound card, other posts using it Cards are limited by rollout and country; the sound may be user-created audio rather than an official track
Shazam A video with no useful label or an ambiguous one A possible music match that you can open in a supported streaming app It needs an audible sample, and no method guarantees a match for every clip
