Cloudinary’s URL2PNG documentation does not describe a dedicated option to dismiss or hide a target website’s cookie banner before capture. You can change the finished image with a crop or overlay, but that does not interact with the site’s consent controls. For a genuine consent state or repeatable banner handling, use the target site’s consent interface or a browser workflow that supports the needed interaction, then verify the result on your page.

What Cloudinary URL2PNG can—and cannot—do

URL2PNG is Cloudinary’s add-on for generating screenshots of public websites and delivering the resulting image through Cloudinary’s image pipeline. The documented capture settings include viewport, user agent and delay, with examples that also discuss full-page behavior. The reviewed documentation does not list a cookie-banner removal switch or source-page CSS injection option. That is a statement about the documented controls, not proof that no private or subsequently added feature exists; check the current add-on interface before relying on a capability. Cloudinary URL2PNG documentation

Cloudinary’s documentation about cookies concerns Cloudinary services: asset-delivery requests do not set or use cookies, while Cloudinary’s website and Console can use cookies and third-party services can set cookies when used with Cloudinary widgets. This does not establish how URL2PNG handles consent cookies or banner state on an arbitrary site being captured. Cloudinary image transformations

Choose the right approach for your goal

What you need Approach Important limit
Record a page after a legitimate consent choice Use the target site’s consent interface, then capture the resulting state with a workflow that preserves it. URL2PNG’s reviewed documentation does not specify how it handles third-party consent state.
Repeatedly capture a controlled test page Use browser automation that explicitly supports clicking the relevant consent controls, loading an authorized test state, or applying page CSS. The reviewed URL2PNG documentation does not establish support for these mechanisms.
Remove banner pixels from the delivered image only Apply a downstream crop or overlay to the screenshot image in Cloudinary. This changes the image composition; it does not dismiss the banner or record consent on the source page.

For a one-off screenshot, make the consent choice first

  1. Open the target website in a browser and use its own consent interface to make the choice appropriate for your use. Do not treat concealing the banner as consent.
  2. Confirm the intended page state in that browser. A visible banner may be controlled by site-specific cookies, local storage, or other mechanisms; the Cloudinary documentation does not say which state URL2PNG will receive.
  3. Capture using a workflow that can preserve the intended state. If using URL2PNG, test the exact target page rather than assuming the browser’s existing state carries over.
  4. Inspect the output for both the banner and the page content you need. If URL2PNG does not produce the required state, use a browser-based capture process with documented consent interaction or controlled test-state support.

For repeatable captures, automate the page state—not just the image

A repeatable workflow should explicitly address the consent manager before taking the screenshot. Depending on the site and your authorization, that can mean interacting with its consent controls, using a controlled test configuration, or applying CSS in a browser capture process. Validate each method against the site because consent interfaces and persistence behavior vary. The reviewed URL2PNG documentation establishes viewport, user-agent and delay settings, but does not establish consent interaction, state persistence, or source-page CSS injection.

Use Cloudinary transformations only for image composition

Cloudinary can transform the screenshot after URL2PNG has created it. A crop can exclude a banner if the page layout and desired framing allow it; an image or text overlay can cover pixels in the output. Cloudinary’s screenshot guidance shows downstream transformations such as cropping and overlays. These operations affect the delivered image, not the original page or its consent manager. Check access and signing before deployment

Cloudinary says URL2PNG generally requires signed URLs or eager generation by default. Account security settings may allow unsigned transformations for selected add-ons, so check the current configuration and add-on registration for your account before deploying. If you want a screenshot API with documented cleanup options, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in one GET request. Its capture flow accepts cookie and consent banners and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents, with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf.

Troubleshooting

  • The banner still appears. URL2PNG’s reviewed documentation does not list a dedicated hide or dismiss control. Use the site’s consent interface or switch to a browser workflow that supports the necessary interaction.
  • The page appears in the wrong consent state. Do not assume a prior browser choice is transferred to URL2PNG. Test whether the capture workflow preserves the target site’s state; the reviewed documentation does not specify this behavior.
  • A crop removes the banner but cuts off useful content. Cropping changes the framing, not the page state. Adjust the crop only if the resulting image still communicates what you need; otherwise capture the page with the banner handled before the screenshot.
  • An unsigned URL does not work. URL2PNG generally requires signing or eager generation by default. Verify add-on registration and the account’s current security settings for unsigned transformations.
  • The result differs from what you see in Cloudinary’s Console. Cloudinary’s own website and Console cookie behavior does not explain the consent behavior of the third-party site being captured. Test against that site directly.
