The crucial safeguard is to check whether another listener has already handled the request—especially after any asynchronous work—so requests do not stall or trigger “Request is already handled” errors.
Enable interception before the requests you want to handle
Call await page.setRequestInterception(true) before navigating or triggering the requests you intend to inspect. Once interception is enabled, a request stalls until it is continued, fulfilled with a response, or aborted, unless the browser cache completes it.
Here is a minimal example that blocks PNG requests and lets other requests proceed:

}The handler checks the request’s resolution state before acting. Keep that guard if other listeners or packages might also handle requests; without it, competing handlers can try to resolve the same request.

Choose how each request should be resolved
Use one of the three resolution methods according to what the page should receive:
request.continue(overrides)sends the request onward, optionally applying request overrides.request.respond(response)fulfills the request with a response you supply, which is useful for mocking.request.abort(errorCode)prevents the request from proceeding. The error code is optional.
For example, to change a request header, continue with an override:

Prevent competing handlers from resolving a request twice
More than one event listener, or a library used by your application, may try to handle the same request. Check request.isInterceptResolutionHandled() immediately before resolving it. If the handler awaits asynchronous work, check again afterward: another handler may have resolved the request while yours was waiting.

});Keep the final state check and the call to abort(), respond(), or continue() together in the same synchronous block. Do not await between that final check and resolution. This pattern avoids acting on a request another listener has already handled.

Use cooperative priorities when listeners should participate together
Puppeteer supports Cooperative Intercept Mode when every resolution supplies a numeric priority. In that mode, handlers can contribute resolutions and the highest priority wins. If priorities tie, the outcome order is abort, then respond, then continue.
If any handler resolves without a priority, it switches that resolution to legacy immediate handling; cooperative aggregation does not govern it. For a handler that should express a safe default preference to continue, use priority 0 or DEFAULT_INTERCEPT_RESOLUTION_PRIORITY, allowing a higher-priority cooperative action from another handler to win.

}Use a custom priority only when you intentionally want your handler’s decision to outrank another cooperative handler. If every handler does not supply a numeric priority, do not rely on cooperative resolution.
Troubleshoot stalled or already-handled requests
- Navigation hangs or resources never finish: interception may be enabled without resolving every request. Ensure each applicable handler reaches a resolution path, and install the listener before navigation.
- “Request is already handled” or a resolution error: another listener may have acted first. Check
isInterceptResolutionHandled()before resolving and check it again after every awaited operation. - A higher-priority action does not win: a handler may have resolved without a priority, invoking legacy immediate handling. Confirm that all participating resolutions include numeric priorities.
- A data URL mock has no effect:
request.respond()does not support mocking data URLs; use another request or provide content through a supported route.
