You cannot use a public Zoopla listings API to search listings today. As of 30 September 2026, Zoopla’s developer portal says its listings API is no longer publicly available. Zoopla’s Terms of Use also prohibit text or data mining and web scraping of its site, including automated access by bots, spiders and scrapers. If you need Zoopla data, contact the company about authorized commercial access and get the permitted use and technical terms in writing before building an integration.
Can you scrape Zoopla with an API?
Not through a publicly available listings API, according to Zoopla’s developer portal as of 30 September 2026. The portal directs commercial users to contact Zoopla to discuss data availability, including possible listings API access. This is different from receiving an API key that lets anyone query public property listings: no currently public listing-search endpoint, credentials, quota or pricing are established here.

Zoopla’s Terms of Use say: “You shall not conduct, facilitate, authorise or permit any text or data mining or web scraping in relation to our Site.” The terms give examples including a robot, bot, spider, scraper or other automated device, program, tool, algorithm, code, process or methodology. They also state that site content may not be used commercially without a licence from Zoopla. A script that fetches listing pages, browser automation, proxies or CAPTCHA-solving services does not change those restrictions or create permission.
So the practical answer to “How do I scrape Zoopla listings with Python?” is: do not target the public site with a scraper. Ask Zoopla for an authorized data arrangement, then implement only the API and uses that its current documentation and agreement permit.

What Zoopla APIs are documented?
Zoopla Member Support lists API material for Authentication, Leads API and Push Delivery Service, Premium Listings, and Featured Properties (weekly). These are member and business workflows, not a public API for collecting every property listing.
For example, the premium-listings technical documentation describes member operations such as a POST request to activate a premium listing for a supplied listing ID, followed by authenticated status or update operations. That supports a product integration for a member’s listings; it does not establish permission or an endpoint for bulk searching public listings.

Historical tutorials and open-source Python wrappers describe the former Zoopla API and may show old query shapes. Treat them as legacy material, not current implementation instructions. They do not prove that old endpoints, keys, quotas or permissions still work. If a legacy example conflicts with Zoopla’s current developer portal or written agreement, follow the current official information.
How to request authorized Zoopla data access
- Define the use case. Say whether you need internal analytics, lead routing, valuation research or a customer-facing product. Explain why a Zoopla data feed is needed rather than describing the project only as “scraping.”
- Specify the data requirement. List the geography, property fields, expected volume, refresh frequency and intended retention period. Identify whether you need sale, rental, sold-price or agent information; do not assume every category is available.
- Contact Zoopla through its developer or business channel. The current developer portal directs commercial users to contact Zoopla to discuss availability. Ask whether a data arrangement exists for your use case and which current documentation applies.
- Get the terms in writing before coding. Confirm permitted use, fields, geography, freshness, authentication, endpoint host, pagination, request limits, pricing, storage, retention, redistribution rights, support and termination or deletion requirements.
- Build against the authorized contract. Use the endpoint, authentication method, request shape and limits Zoopla supplies. Keep credentials on your server, record useful request and error identifiers, and implement the agreement’s retention and deletion rules.
- Validate incoming records. Check for duplicate listings, missing fields, stale status, changed identifiers and timestamp anomalies. Preserve the source timestamp so downstream users can distinguish data freshness from the time your system processed it.
- Reassess if access is unavailable. If Zoopla cannot offer the required feed, evaluate a different licensed UK property-data provider whose contract explicitly covers the intended use, storage and redistribution.
Python: a client pattern for an authorized endpoint
Zoopla does not publish a public listings endpoint to plug into this example. The code below is deliberately an adapter pattern, not a working Zoopla URL or a claim about Zoopla’s authentication scheme. Use it only after Zoopla provides an endpoint and confirms the auth-header name, request parameters and response format. Set the endpoint and header values from that agreement; do not point it at public Zoopla pages.

The example uses a JSON GET response, which you must verify against the documentation for your authorized integration. It fails clearly on missing configuration, HTTP errors or a non-JSON response rather than silently treating an error page as property data.

Do not commit credentials to source control, print secrets in logs, or assume a successful HTTP status means the response contains current listings.

This sample intentionally does not invent pagination, field names, a base URL, token format, request limit or response schema. Add pagination and retries only as documented. In particular, do not retry authentication failures or repeat a request aggressively: follow the contract’s rate limits and error guidance.
How to make the integration reliable
- Separate configuration from code. Keep the authorized endpoint, credentials and allowed parameters in deployment configuration. Rotate secrets as required by Zoopla’s guidance and restrict access to them.
- Handle errors according to the contract. Distinguish authentication and permission errors from throttling, server failures, timeouts and invalid responses. Retry only transient failures, with bounded backoff and within the published limits.
- Make ingestion repeatable. If the API supports stable identifiers or update markers, use those documented mechanisms to avoid duplicate records. Do not assume listing IDs are permanent without confirmation.
- Track provenance and freshness. Store source timestamps and ingestion timestamps separately. Define checks for missing required fields, stale records and unexpected changes before data reaches reports or customers.
- Apply contract controls to downstream use. Enforce authorized retention, access, deletion and redistribution rules in the pipeline, not just in a written policy. If the agreement ends or data must be deleted, know how that propagates to backups and derived systems.

Choosing a licensed alternative if Zoopla access is unavailable
Compare providers on whether the agreement actually permits your use, rather than whether a page happens to be fetchable. Ask each provider about sale, rental, sold-price and agent-field coverage; geographic scope; freshness and update latency; pagination and rate limits; authentication and operational support; pricing; retention; redistribution; and contractual liability. A provider suitable for internal research may not permit a customer-facing product, resale or long-term storage. Get those distinctions confirmed in the contract before you build around the feed.

Can a historical Zoopla Python wrapper still be useful?
It can help explain legacy request patterns, but it is not evidence that an endpoint, key or permission remains valid. Do not use it against the live site unless Zoopla has confirmed the current access and terms in writing.
