You generally can’t pair a Bluetooth soundbar directly with an Xbox to hear game audio. Instead, connect the Xbox to your TV by HDMI, then pair the soundbar with the TV if the TV supports Bluetooth audio. For gaming, Bluetooth may introduce noticeable delay; HDMI ARC/eARC is a wired alternative when both the TV and soundbar support it.
Why the Xbox does not pair directly with a Bluetooth soundbar
The cited setup guide for Xbox Series X says the console has no native Bluetooth audio output. That means a Bluetooth soundbar generally cannot be selected as the console’s audio device. The workaround is to send Xbox audio to the TV over HDMI, then have the TV send sound to the soundbar. This Series X guidance should not be assumed to cover every Xbox generation; check the connection options for your specific console.
Pair the soundbar with your TV for Xbox audio
- Connect the Xbox to an HDMI input on the TV and turn on both devices.
- Put the soundbar into Bluetooth pairing mode using the instructions for its model.
- Open the TV’s Bluetooth or audio-output settings, find the soundbar, and pair it. Then choose the soundbar as the TV’s audio output.
- Start a game and listen for audio delay. If the sound is noticeably out of sync with the picture or gameplay, try a wired connection instead.
TV menus differ by manufacturer, model, and software version. LG, for example, provides different Bluetooth menu paths for webOS 2026 and later, 2021–2025, and 2020 and earlier. Sony likewise notes that Bluetooth audio availability depends on the TV platform. Use your TV and soundbar manuals if the labels or steps do not match.

If the TV cannot find the soundbar
- Confirm that the soundbar is still in pairing mode.
- Disconnect it from nearby phones or tablets that may have reconnected automatically, then search again from the TV.
- Check the TV manual to confirm that the model supports Bluetooth audio output, not just Bluetooth connections for other purposes.
Bluetooth versus wired TV-to-soundbar connections
Choose a connection that both devices support. The sources establish Bluetooth, HDMI ARC/eARC, optical, and analog as possible methods, but do not establish a universal latency or audio-format comparison across models. Check your manuals for supported formats and ports.

Set up HDMI ARC/eARC if Bluetooth delay is a problem
- Find the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC and the matching port on the soundbar.
- Connect the TV and soundbar using those ports. A standard HDMI port on either device is not a substitute for the ARC/eARC connection.
- In the TV’s sound settings, select the external audio system or soundbar output. Set the soundbar to the corresponding HDMI input if needed.
- Play Xbox audio and confirm that sound comes through the soundbar.
If ARC/eARC is unavailable, use optical or analog only when both devices have matching connections. Select the relevant TV output and soundbar input; menu names vary by model. LG notes that its guidance covers standard models and that settings may differ, while Sony advises checking device-specific functions and jacks.

When the soundbar is connected but there is no sound
- Bluetooth: Verify that the TV is set to output audio to the paired soundbar, rather than its built-in speakers. Confirm the soundbar has not switched back to a paired phone or tablet.
- HDMI ARC/eARC: Check that the cable connects the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s ARC/eARC port. Connections to ordinary HDMI ports will not return TV audio.
- Optical or analog: Confirm that the cable connects compatible output and input ports, then select the matching output on the TV and input on the soundbar.
- Unclear menu labels or ports: Consult the manuals for the exact TV and soundbar models; settings and available connections vary.
