A 24/7 stream of old videos can help new viewers discover your channel, but it does not guarantee subscribers or YouTube monetization. Give the stream a clear reason to watch, make sure you have rights to everything in it, add meaningful original value where appropriate, and use YouTube Analytics to test whether the format attracts the audience you want.
Make the stream worth discovering
Start with the viewer, not the fact that the stream runs all day. A title, thumbnail, and description should make the subject and value clear: what kind of videos are playing, who they are for, and why someone might want to watch this channel again. Avoid packaging an unchanged loop as if it were new material.
Give viewers a reason to subscribe
State what viewers can expect from the channel beyond this one stream. A natural subscription invitation connects to that future value—for example, more performances, lessons, or carefully curated programs—rather than asking for a subscription with no explanation. If older videos benefit from context, add genuinely useful curation or commentary instead of relying on repetition alone.
Test the programming and presentation
Treat changes to the stream’s topic, title, thumbnail, or programming as experiments. Compare one meaningful change at a time where practical, and note the period each version ran. There is no official best stream duration, restart cadence, or guaranteed subscriber tactic for looping old videos.

Measure whether the stream is finding the right audience
Use YouTube Analytics to look at thumbnail impressions and click-through rate, resulting watch time, and peak and average concurrent viewers for the livestream. Track subscriber changes over the same periods. These measures describe different parts of the viewer journey: impressions and click-through rate relate to packaging, watch time and concurrency describe engagement, and subscriber changes show whether the channel gained subscribers. None by itself proves that the stream caused a change.
When comparing periods, account for changes in the videos shown, stream presentation, and other channel activity. A rise or fall in subscribers alongside a stream is useful evidence for your next test, not proof that a particular loop will work for every channel.
Can old videos be streamed again?
Only use videos and other material you own or have the necessary rights to use in both a livestream and its archive. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators must have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live and archived content, including applicable music licensing rights. A license should cover the intended uses and territories; simply having access to a video or soundtrack does not establish that right.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause the stream to be replaced temporarily with a placeholder, trigger a warning, or lead to interruption or termination. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. If you have a license for third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID; a stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright issues and its terms of service.
Copyright clearance is not the same as monetization originality
A stream can be legally licensed and still raise a separate monetization concern. YouTube defines reused content as material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value. Its review applies to the channel as a whole, and permission to use material does not by itself establish monetization eligibility.
YouTube clarified on July 15, 2025 that its repetitious-content policy is called “inauthentic content”; repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under that policy. A loop of old videos is not automatically disqualified simply because it is old, but repeating material without a meaningful original contribution can create risk. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and make the channel’s contribution clear.

Keep a public archive if you are relying on livestream watch hours
Not every hour watched on a livestream counts toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility. YouTube says qualified watch hours can include public archived livestreams; streams that are not archived do not qualify. Its eligibility guidance also excludes unlisted, deleted, or non-VOD livestreams. If watch hours matter to your plan, check the stream’s archive and visibility settings after it ends, and confirm the hours shown in YouTube Studio.
Archiving does not guarantee that hours will qualify in every case or that a channel will pass review. YouTube’s guidance on YPP eligibility sets the applicable conditions.

A practical checklist before you go live
- Confirm that you own or have appropriate licenses for every video, soundtrack, image, and other element, including livestream and archived use.
- Choose a focused program and describe it accurately in the title, thumbnail, and description.
- Consider whether meaningful commentary, curation, or other original value makes the channel’s contribution clear.
- Check whether any licensed third-party material requires a Content ID allowlist to reduce the risk of live interruption.
- If qualified watch hours matter, verify that the livestream is public and retained as an eligible archive or VOD.
- Record the stream’s presentation and programming changes so you can interpret Analytics comparisons.
