You can record without going live. Streamlabs’ onboarding guide, last updated October 1, 2025, describes Talk Studio as a browser-based service that needs no installation.
Before you open Talk Studio
Streamlabs recommends Google Chrome or Safari, a stable internet connection, and preferably Ethernet. Its October 1, 2025 setup guidance gives these upload-speed recommendations:
| Output resolution | Required upload | Recommended upload |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps |
These are Streamlabs’ vendor recommendations, not performance guarantees. Your connection may be shared with other devices, so test it under the conditions you expect to stream in. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide has the setup requirements.
Sign in or create a Streamlabs account
- Open the Talk Studio page and sign in with an existing Streamlabs account, or create a Streamlabs ID.
- If creating an account, verify your email and continue into Talk Studio.
- If you already use Streamlabs, the login guide lists Streamlabs ID, email, and several platform sign-in choices. It advises Ultra subscribers to use their Streamlabs ID unless Support directs otherwise.
See Streamlabs’ login guide for the available account methods.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Allow your camera and microphone
- When your browser asks for camera and microphone access, choose Allow.

- Check that the camera preview appears and that the microphone is registering audio before you go live or invite guests.
- If no permission prompt appears, open the browser’s site controls for Talk Studio, allow camera and microphone access, then refresh the page if needed.
Talk Studio does not require a particular microphone model. A built-in device can work; an external microphone is optional.

To record without broadcasting
- Open Settings > Output.
- Enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both, depending on the files you need.
- Start a recording session without selecting a broadcast destination.
- When finished, select Stop Recording.
Cloud Recording provides a complete recording and an audio-only downloadable file. Local Recording creates separate audio/video tracks for each participant, which can help when you want to adjust speakers separately in editing. Streamlabs says Local Recording is not supported on mobile devices. The sources do not establish that either mode has better recording quality or reliability.
Invite guests and manage the studio
- Select Add Guest to copy an invitation link or send it by email.
- Guests enter a queue. Select Show on stream to move a guest into the live editor.
- Check the guest’s audio after adding them to the stream. Streamlabs notes that a guest’s microphone is not heard until the guest is moved onto the stream.
A cohost can be invited through the Team section. According to Streamlabs, a cohost can manage guests, design elements, layouts, intro/outro video, and configuration. For additional controls, consult the official setup guide.

End the session and save your files
- For a broadcast, select End Stream.
- For a recording-only session, select Stop Recording.
- If streaming and recording together, Streamlabs says ending the stream also ends the paired recording.
- Download recordings before their applicable storage-retention period expires.
Streamlabs’ recording guide lists maximum session lengths of 4 hours on Standard and 10 hours on Pro. Those are plan-specific limits stated in the guide last updated September 16, 2025; check the current plan details before relying on a limit. See Streamlabs’ Talk Studio recording guide.
Common first-session problems
| What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|
| No camera picture or microphone audio | Check browser site permissions, select the intended devices in the studio, and refresh after changing permissions. |
| Guest is visible but silent | Move the guest from the queue into the editor with Show on stream; their microphone is not heard before that. |
| Recording-only session produces no saved recording | Before starting, confirm that Cloud Recording and/or Local Recording is enabled under Settings > Output. |
| Local participant tracks are unavailable | Local Recording is not supported on mobile devices; use a supported desktop setup if separate tracks are required. |
| Session ends but recording stops too | This is expected when streaming and recording together: ending the stream also ends its paired recording. |
Or let it run in the cloud
Talk Studio is for hosting a live session or recording in its studio. If instead you want a pre-recorded video to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can be off; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
