To make iPhone text alerts repeat, open Settings > Notifications > Messages > Customize Notifications > Repeat Alerts, then choose a repeat count from Never to 10 Times. Apple says repeat alerts arrive at two-minute intervals; you can change the count, but Apple’s documented setting does not offer a way to change the interval.
Turn on repeat alerts for text messages
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Notifications, then Messages.
- Tap Customize Notifications.
- Tap Repeat Alerts and choose the number of repeats you want, from Never to 10 Times. Apple documents this setting in its iPhone notification instructions.
Choosing Never disables repeat alerts. A higher count means Messages can alert you more times about a new message. Apple says repeats occur at two-minute intervals; the documented control changes the number of repeats, not the interval. See Apple’s Messages notification guidance.
Why repeat text alerts may not arrive or make a sound
Messages is open on screen
Apple notes that you may not receive a notification for each new message while Messages is open and active. If you are already viewing the conversation, a separate alert may not appear.
The conversation has Hide Alerts enabled
Check the specific conversation for Hide Alerts. If it is enabled, notifications for that conversation can be suppressed. Apple’s Messages troubleshooting guidance covers this setting and other notification checks.

Messages notifications are disabled
Go to Settings > Notifications > Messages and make sure notifications are allowed. Also check the notification presentation and sound options there if alerts appear without an audible sound.
Your Apple Watch is receiving the notification
When your iPhone is locked or asleep and your Apple Watch is being worn and unlocked, notifications may go to the Watch instead of the iPhone; Apple says they do not go to both devices at once. Check the Watch if the iPhone seems quiet. See Apple’s explanation of Messages notification delivery.

Focus or Scheduled Summary is delaying delivery
Focus can delay notifications, while Scheduled Summary can hold included notifications and deliver them together later. Review Settings > Focus and Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary if alerts arrive later than expected. Apple describes these controls in its general notification guidance.

Apple’s documented route is through Messages’ notification settings, but menu labels and feature availability can vary with iOS version and region. Check that your iPhone is running current software and look under Settings > Notifications > Messages for Customize Notifications. Apple’s guide does not specify a separate interval control.
