To add storage to a personal Google Account, go to one.google.com, sign in to the account you want to upgrade, select Upgrade, choose an available plan, and confirm the price and payment details shown at checkout. Google One storage is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos; Android WhatsApp backups also count toward the quota. If your account is nearly full, you can also reclaim space by deleting content you no longer need.
Check which account is using the storage
Before upgrading or deleting anything, confirm that you are signed in to the correct Google Account and check its storage usage. A personal Google Account includes up to 15 GB at no charge, shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos, according to Google Drive Help. If you have a work or school account, you generally cannot buy more storage through the consumer Google One flow; contact your account administrator about its storage options.

When an account reaches its storage limit, Google says you may be unable to upload or create Drive files, send or receive Gmail messages, or back up photos and videos to Google Photos. See Google’s storage-management guide for the current effects and cleanup tools.

If the account contains large files, attachments, or backups you no longer need, cleanup may be enough. Review what is using space, delete only items you are sure you do not need, and empty the relevant trash. Google’s guide says storage should update after a short period; if it still appears full after 30 minutes, try its additional cleanup suggestions.

- Gmail: Search for large attachments with
has:attachment larger:10M, then review the results before deleting messages. - Google Drive: Sort or review files by size to identify large items you can remove.
- Google Photos: Review large or unwanted photos and videos before deleting them.
- WhatsApp backups on Android: Treat deletion as permanent. If you might need the backup, do not delete it. If you decide to remove it, first adjust WhatsApp backup settings; otherwise, a new backup may be created at the next device backup.
After deleting items, empty trash where applicable and allow time for the account’s storage total to refresh.
Upgrade to a Google One plan
- Go to one.google.com and sign in to the personal Google Account whose storage you want to increase.
- Select Upgrade.
- Choose a storage plan available for your account and country.
- Review the checkout details, including the displayed price, billing cadence, taxes, and payment date, then confirm the subscription.
Google says an upgrade can take up to 24 hours to appear in your account. If the extra storage has not appeared after that, check that payment completed and that you upgraded the intended account.

Choose a plan based on availability and use
Google’s plan-options help page lists tiers of 30 GB in selected regions, 100 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB, 5 TB, 10 TB, 20 TB, and 30 TB. It notes that 5 TB and larger tiers are upgrades for existing members, and that 10 TB, 20 TB, and 30 TB plans are monthly. Options and benefits vary by country, account, plan, and billing location, so use the choices and terms shown in your account rather than assuming every tier is available to you. Check Google’s plan-options page for plan information.

When comparing the available choices, consider how much shared storage you need, the local price and billing cadence, whether the plan supports family sharing, and how you currently pay. A subscription billed through Google Play, Apple’s App Store, a mobile carrier, or another provider may need to be managed through that provider rather than on the web.
Use family sharing if someone already has a suitable plan
A Google One plan manager can share a plan with up to five family members, subject to Google’s requirements. Members share the plan’s storage capacity, but their files are not visible to one another unless they choose to share them directly. Family members must live in the same country, and the 30 GB Lite plan is not eligible for family sharing. The plan manager can review the setup and requirements in Google’s family-sharing help.

Upgrade from a phone or manage an existing subscription
On Android, Google provides upgrade flows in the Google One and Google Drive apps. On iPhone or iPad, upgrade options may be available in Google One or through Google Drive or Gmail, depending on the flow and availability. Follow the device-specific steps in Google’s Android instructions or iOS instructions. For a computer, use Google’s computer instructions.
