To play audio through an LG 34-inch monitor, first confirm that your exact model has built-in speakers. Connect your computer through a supported audio-carrying input, select the LG monitor as the computer’s sound output, then unmute and raise the monitor’s volume. The screen size alone does not mean the monitor has speakers.
1. Confirm that your LG monitor has built-in speakers
Find the full model number on the monitor’s label or in its product information, then check the LG product page or owner’s manual for a speaker specification. LG notes that not all monitors have built-in speakers; a model without them cannot play sound through internal speakers, whatever its settings.
For example, LG’s U.S. product page identifies the 34U530A-W as a 34-inch monitor with built-in Waves MaxxAudio stereo speakers. That example applies to that model, not to every LG 34-inch monitor. Check the 34U530A-W product specifications, or look up your own model.
2. Connect the computer through an audio-capable input
Use an input supported by both your computer and monitor. HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C can carry audio to a monitor, but availability and support vary by model, port, and cable. Consult the monitor’s specifications or manual if you are unsure whether your chosen connection carries audio.

Make sure the computer is sending its display signal through that connection and that the monitor is set to the matching input. A loose connection, an unsupported port or cable, or a different selected input can prevent the monitor from appearing as an audio output.
3. Select the monitor as the sound output in Windows
Windows may continue sending audio to the computer’s speakers, headphones, or another device even while the LG monitor is displaying the computer’s picture. Open Windows sound or output settings and select the LG monitor as the output device. Its name may resemble the monitor model or appear as a display/audio device; labels vary.

LG’s guidance covers choosing the monitor as the Windows output device. If the monitor is missing from the output list, go to the troubleshooting steps below rather than assuming it has speakers or that the monitor is defective. See LG’s Windows sound-output guidance.

Use the monitor’s on-screen controls to make sure it is not muted and its volume is raised. The control layout depends on the model. LG notes that some applicable monitors use a joystick beneath the display to adjust volume; check your monitor’s manual for its specific menu and controls.

The monitor does not appear as a sound output
- Re-seat the cable at both ends and confirm the monitor is set to the input connected to the computer.
- Check that the chosen port and cable support audio for this monitor and computer.
- Verify that Windows is using the connection to the LG monitor, then consult current Windows sound-device or driver troubleshooting guidance if the output remains unavailable. The right driver steps depend on your Windows version and hardware.
LG also recommends checking the connection and computer sound-device settings when audio is unavailable. Read LG’s audio setup guidance.

The monitor appears as an output but stays silent
- Confirm it is the selected Windows output, not just a device in the list.
- Check the monitor’s mute state and volume using its on-screen controls.
- Verify the selected monitor input and connection. If one input works but another does not, check that the second input supports audio on your specific model.
The monitor has no speaker specification or sound controls
Recheck the full model number and its LG specifications. If the model does not include speakers, no Windows setting or monitor menu can enable internal speakers. You will need separate speakers or headphones, or a monitor model with built-in speakers.
