To get around Dalaran quickly, first identify which city you mean: Northrend Dalaran and the Broken Isles (Legion) Dalaran are separate versions with different routes. To reach a city, use its Dalaran Hearthstone if you have one, ask a mage for a portal, or—if heading to Broken Isles Dalaran—take your faction capital’s portal to Azsuna and fly onward. For travel from the city, use its flight master or a portal that matches your destination.
First, identify which Dalaran you need
World of Warcraft has two distinct cities called Dalaran: the Northrend version and the Broken Isles version introduced with Legion. Their access routes are not interchangeable. Check the destination name on a portal or item before traveling; directions for Legion-era Dalaran will not necessarily take you to Northrend Dalaran. The community-maintained Dalaran reference describes the city versions and their access routes, but details may change as the game is updated.
Choose a route based on your destination
| Route | Best for | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Dalaran Hearthstone | Returning to the Dalaran linked to your character’s Hearthstone | Use it if your character has the item. Check the destination rather than assuming it reaches the version you want. |
| Mage portal | Reaching Dalaran when a mage is available to help | A mage can provide a portal; confirm which Dalaran it leads to before entering. |
| Faction-capital portal to Azsuna, then flight | Reaching Broken Isles Dalaran without its Hearthstone | The cited access route is to take your faction capital’s portal to Azsuna, then fly to Dalaran. |
| Flight paths | Continuing onward from Broken Isles Dalaran | The flight master is at Krasus’ Landing. Available connections depend on your character’s access and the game’s current state. |
A transportation guide from Wowhead, updated October 7, 2022, lists the Dalaran Hearthstone and mage portals among ways to reach Dalaran. Treat it as general guidance, not a guarantee that every route or access condition remains unchanged in the current patch.
How to reach Broken Isles Dalaran without a Hearthstone
- Go to your faction’s capital and use its portal to Azsuna, if it is available to your character.
- From Azsuna, fly to Broken Isles Dalaran.
- For later onward travel from the city, find the flight master at Krasus’ Landing and check the flight paths available to you.
Portal access can vary with faction, character progression, patch, and game mode. If the portal is missing or the route does not match your destination, check current in-game signage or ask a mage for a portal to the specific Dalaran you need.

What about Northrend Dalaran?
Do not follow the Azsuna route if your destination is Northrend Dalaran. The sources cited here distinguish the two cities but do not establish a current, authoritative route map covering every character and game mode. Use a Dalaran Hearthstone only after checking which city it reaches, or ask for a mage portal specifically to Northrend Dalaran. The same caution applies to portals whose destination labels are unclear.
Do not mistake event or destination teleports for general routes
Some portals and NPC teleports serve a specific destination rather than general travel. Blizzard’s July 2024 Radiant Echoes event notes described portals from Dalaran to event staging areas and return portals from event zones. Those were event routes, not a permanent way to move around Dalaran or Azeroth.

Blizzard’s Darkmoon Faire instructions identify a Mystic Mage in Dalaran who teleports players to the Faire. That is useful when the Faire is your destination, but it is not a general-purpose city or world-travel option. Availability of special services can depend on the event or destination.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen you only need to cross the city
The sources cited here do not establish a current map of internal portal locations or a verified shortest route between Dalaran’s neighborhoods. For city-internal directions, use the map and current in-game signs for the version you are in rather than relying on an unverified turn-by-turn route. Blizzard’s content update index shows ongoing updates, but does not provide Dalaran navigation directions.
