Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To generate an Extent Spark HTML report from Selenium tests, add the ExtentReports Java dependency, attach an ExtentSparkReporter to one ExtentReports instance, create an ExtentTest for each test, record the test’s real outcome, and call flush() after execution. This guide uses Java; the code does not apply unchanged to Python, JavaScript, or C#.
1. Add ExtentReports to your Java project
ExtentReports and Selenium are separate dependencies. The Maven Central listing showed com.aventstack:extentreports:5.1.2 at the research timestamp; confirm the latest version before implementing, since releases can change. Selenium’s official downloads page listed Java 4.49.0, released September 9, 2026. Choose dependency versions compatible with your Java runtime and test framework.
For Maven, add ExtentReports to pom.xml:
<dependency>
<groupId>com.aventstack</groupId>
<artifactId>extentreports</artifactId>
<version>5.1.2</version>
</dependency>
Check the current artifact listing at Maven Central before pinning a version. If your project uses Gradle, declare the equivalent com.aventstack:extentreports dependency in its dependency block and use the version you selected.
2. Configure a Spark HTML reporter
ExtentReports records test information; Selenium still performs browser actions, and your test framework still evaluates assertions. Spark is the reporter that writes the report as an HTML file. The official version 5 guide recommends Maven or Gradle dependency management and documents this reporting API: ExtentReports Java documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
import com.aventstack.extentreports.ExtentReports;
import com.aventstack.extentreports.ExtentTest;
import com.aventstack.extentreports.reporter.ExtentSparkReporter;
public class SeleniumReportExample {
public static void main(String[] args) {
ExtentReports extent = new ExtentReports();
ExtentSparkReporter spark = new ExtentSparkReporter("target/Spark.html");
extent.attachReporter(spark);
ExtentTest test = extent.createTest("Home page loads");
// Run Selenium actions and assertions here. Record pass only after
// the actual test assertion has succeeded.
test.pass("Home page loaded successfully");
// In a real test suite, flush from suite teardown or an equivalent
// lifecycle hook so the report is written after execution.
extent.flush();
}
}
This is a minimal reporting example, not a complete Selenium test: it does not create a WebDriver or perform an assertion. In production, call test.pass() only when the test actually passes. When an assertion or browser action fails, log the failure and relevant exception details instead. The library records entries but does not decide whether your test passed.
3. Connect reporting to the test lifecycle
Use one report instance for the run
Create one ExtentReports instance for the test run, attach the reporter, and create a separate ExtentTest entry for each test. Give tests stable, recognizable names so someone reading the report can identify the scenario without guessing.

Log outcomes and useful evidence
Record pass, fail, or skip status based on the test framework’s actual result. Add concise step descriptions and diagnostic context that helps a teammate investigate: for example, the relevant exception or environment/build information. ExtentReports supports attaching screenshots, but teams should decide where screenshots are stored and how long they are retained; there is no single storage policy established by the documentation.
Flush even when tests fail
Call extent.flush() after test execution so the reporter writes or updates the configured output. Put cleanup in a suite teardown method or the equivalent framework listener/extension, and ensure it runs after failures as well as successful tests. The official API establishes the reporting workflow, but does not prescribe one universal lifecycle hook for TestNG, JUnit, or other frameworks; implement the hook appropriate to your runner.

4. Find and open the report
With the example path target/Spark.html, look in the project’s target directory after the run and open Spark.html in a browser. If you choose a different output path, use that exact location when finding the report. A missing or stale file commonly means the configured path differs from the one being checked, or execution did not reach the flush step.
5. Avoid obsolete API examples
Use the current com.aventstack group for the documented versions. Older tutorials may use com.relevantcodes, which belongs to ExtentReports versions up to version 2. In the version 5 documentation, ExtentHtmlReporter and ExtentLoggerReporter are described as deprecated in the 4.1.x series and removed in version 5; use ExtentSparkReporter for a new HTML report. Match code to your selected library version rather than copying APIs from older version 3 or 4 articles: ExtentReports version 5 guide.

6. Troubleshoot common report problems
- No HTML file appears: Confirm the reporter’s output path and make sure the test run reaches
extent.flush(). Place flush in teardown or a runner lifecycle hook that also executes after failure. - The report shows a pass for a failed scenario: Do not log an unconditional
pass(). Tie status logging to the test framework’s actual outcome and record failure details when an assertion fails. - Reporter classes or methods are unavailable: Check the resolved ExtentReports dependency and align your code with that version. For version 5, use
ExtentSparkReporter, not removed reporter classes or legacycom.relevantcodesexamples. - The report has entries but little diagnostic value: Add stable test names, concise step messages, relevant exception information, and build/environment context. Decide separately how screenshot files are stored and retained.
- Dependency resolution fails: Verify the artifact coordinates and selected version in your Maven or Gradle configuration, then check that the version is available in the artifact listing. Avoid combining a dependency version with code copied from a different major version.
7. Or skip the browser setup
ExtentReports is for logging automated test results. If the separate task is capturing a website screenshot as an image or PDF, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API; it does not replace Selenium assertions or ExtentReports test logging.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this Java example unchanged with Python, JavaScript, or C# Selenium tests?
No. It uses ExtentReports’ Java API; those languages need their own reporting integration.
Does ExtentReports run Selenium actions or verify assertions?
No. Selenium and your test framework perform browser actions and assertions; ExtentReports records the results and diagnostic information you send it.
