To forward a live stream through Talk Studio, select your linked destinations and save the broadcast details in Talk Studio, then enter its ingest server URL and stream key in an external encoder such as Streamlabs Desktop, OBS, or Zoom. Start the broadcast from that encoder; it sends the video to Talk Studio, which routes it to the destinations you selected.

Choose between Talk Studio and an external encoder

Talk Studio’s Stream Forwarding feature, also called RTMP-In, is for producing the broadcast in another app and sending its signal to your linked Talk Studio destinations. Use it when you need to build scenes or layouts in an encoder, bring in multiple camera sources, use a Zoom call as a source, or show more than nine people on screen. Streamlabs’ guide identifies those as forwarding use cases. Streamlabs’ forwarding guide says LinkedIn and Twitter are not supported in this workflow.

If you do not need those external production tools, you can start a broadcast inside Talk Studio instead. With forwarding, the encoder produces and sends the video; Talk Studio provides the connection details and routes the stream to the selected linked destinations.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Talk Studio and make sure the destinations you want to stream to are linked to your account.
  • Install and open your encoder. Streamlabs Desktop is used in the steps below; OBS and other encoders need a custom RTMP or streaming-server configuration, though labels and menu locations differ.
  • Check your upload connection. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Getting Started guide, retrieved October 3, 2026, lists 5 Mbps as the minimum upload speed. Its chart gives these resolution figures:
Resolution Required upload speed Recommended upload speed
720p 5 Mbps 10 Mbps
1080p 10 Mbps 20 Mbps

These are the figures in Streamlabs’ guide, not independent benchmarks. A stable connection is important; Streamlabs prefers Ethernet. A cable is optional if you already have a suitable wired connection.

Set up Talk Studio stream forwarding

  1. In Talk Studio, open Account Settings > Stream Forwarding.
  2. Select the linked destination or destinations for this broadcast. Do not select LinkedIn or Twitter for this forwarding workflow; Streamlabs lists them as unsupported.
  3. Enter the stream title and description.
  4. Save the stream details. Keep the Talk Studio page available so you can copy its connection values into your encoder.

Connect Streamlabs Desktop and go live

  1. In Streamlabs Desktop, open the settings gear.
  2. Go to Stream > Stream Type > Custom Streaming Server.
  3. Copy the Ingest Server URL shown by Talk Studio into the server or URL field in Streamlabs Desktop.
  4. Copy the Talk Studio Stream key into the stream-key field. Check both values carefully; the URL and key are separate. Treat the key like a password and do not show it in screenshots or share it publicly.
  5. Save the encoder settings, check that your intended scenes and sources are ready, then select Go Live in Streamlabs Desktop.

For OBS, Zoom, or another encoder, choose its custom RTMP or custom server option and enter the same Talk Studio ingest URL and stream key. The exact setting names vary by app. Start the broadcast from the encoder, not from the Talk Studio forwarding settings.

Check the stream if it does not work

  • The stream does not connect: Confirm that you copied both the ingest URL and stream key from Talk Studio into the matching encoder fields. Check for extra spaces or a partial copy, then save the settings again.
  • The wrong destination is receiving the stream, or a destination is missing: Return to Account Settings > Stream Forwarding and verify the destinations selected for the broadcast. LinkedIn and Twitter are not supported in this forwarding workflow according to Streamlabs’ guide.
  • The picture stalls or the connection is unstable: Check available upload capacity and compare it with Streamlabs’ listed figures for your resolution. Use a stable connection; Ethernet is preferred in Streamlabs’ getting-started guidance.
  • Your encoder’s menus do not match these steps: Look for custom RTMP, custom server, or streaming-server settings. Interface labels and locations can vary by encoder, but you need to enter the Talk Studio ingest URL and stream key.

Or let it run in the cloud

Stream forwarding is for routing an encoder’s live output through Talk Studio. If your goal instead is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos, StreamNeo runs that loop from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
