If your YouTube live stream shows a health warning after your broadband upload speed drops, check the exact warning in Live Control Room, compare your encoder’s total outgoing bitrate with your available upload capacity, then reduce the stream’s resolution or bitrate if needed. Use upload—not download—speed for that comparison, and leave about 20% bandwidth headroom. If the problem continues over Ethernet, contact your ISP; changing a cable cannot fix an ISP-side capacity or congestion problem.
Read the warning before changing settings
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and check the Health Indicator and its associated error messages. YouTube says these errors are timestamped; red indicates a critical issue and yellow a moderate one. The wording can point to different causes, including an incorrect bitrate or stream configuration, so note the message and time before adjusting the encoder. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
Keep the time of the warning beside any speed-test result. That helps distinguish a brief upload dip from a persistent connection problem. A speed test is only a snapshot; it does not prove that the connection can sustain a live stream continuously.

Your available outbound upload capacity needs to carry the stream’s total bitrate, with room for variation. YouTube advises leaving 20% bandwidth room. If you send both primary and backup streams, include both in the total. YouTube’s guidance is explicit: “The total bitrate that you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” Read YouTube’s streaming tips.

- 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐦 𝟔 𝐀𝐗𝟏𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐃𝐮𝐚𝐥-𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 - Delivers fast Wi-Fi 6 speeds (1201 Mbps on 5 GHz, 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz) for uninterrupted video streaming, downloading, and online gaming all at the same time. Actual Wi-Fi speeds vary based on source bandwidth, environment, and distance to devices.
- 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐢-𝐅𝐢 𝐎𝐧-𝐓𝐡𝐞-𝐆𝐨 - Connects to public Wi-Fi and creates a private, secure network for all your devices. Supports multiple devices at once, ideal for hotels, Airbnbs, airports, and even home use. VPN connectivity enables secure remote work. This is not a Mi-Fi device or mobile hotspot.
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐀𝐧𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐲 - Offers (1) Router Mode for Ethernet or USB (phone) tethering connections, (2) Hotspot Mode for secure access to public WiFi , and (3) AP/RE/Client Mode to extend WiFi, add WiFi to wired setups, or connect wired devices wirelessly.
- 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 - The Roam 6 AX1500, measuring a compact 4.09 in. × 3.54 in. × 1.10 in., is a pocket-sized travel router perfect for your next trip or adventure.
- 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 - Power the Roam 6 via its USB-C port using the included adapter or any 5V/3A PD power source, like a power bank.
Use the bitrate configured in your encoder and compare it with measured upload capacity during the problem period—not the broadband plan’s advertised download speed. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound. A fast download result therefore does not establish that your stream has enough upload capacity.
YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations
The following are YouTube’s published H.264 encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026. They are encoder settings, not guarantees about what any Indian broadband plan will deliver continuously. Match the row to your actual resolution and frame rate, then allow for YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.

| Resolution and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These figures apply to H.264; YouTube’s encoder settings vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings table for the codec you use. Do not treat the recommended bitrate as a universal preset or as proof that your connection can sustain it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsLower stream demand when upload capacity falls
- Check the outgoing encoder bitrate. Confirm whether the encoder is sending only the primary stream or a primary and backup stream. Compare the combined bitrate with upload capacity measured while the warning occurs.
- Reduce resolution or bitrate if capacity is insufficient. YouTube advises lowering resolution when bandwidth cannot support the selected resolution. Choose a setting that fits the available upload with headroom, using the table for the matching codec and frame rate rather than selecting a preset blindly.
- Test before the important broadcast. When possible, run a short unlisted or test stream with representative audio and motion. Monitor the Live Control Room health indicator while it runs. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing and monitoring stream health.
- Check the exact warning again. A lower bitrate may address insufficient bandwidth, but a stream-configuration error or encoder fault may need a different fix. Use the current warning and timestamp to see whether the issue changes.
Check Wi-Fi, the encoder, and the broadband connection
Try Ethernet if you stream from a computer
If your computer is on Wi-Fi, test a wired Ethernet connection. YouTube recommends Ethernet for computer live streaming: “For live streaming from a computer, it’s recommended to use an Ethernet cable connection.” A cable can remove Wi-Fi instability from the local path; it cannot increase the broadband plan’s upload capacity or resolve ISP-side congestion. Separate encoder trouble from connection trouble
Check whether the outgoing stream looks healthy in your encoder and whether the encoder reports errors or high CPU load. If the local picture is poor, inspect the source routing, encoder errors, computer load, and any local recording. If the encoder appears healthy but YouTube reports connection problems, test outbound internet performance. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to contact your internet service provider when the test reveals connection problems: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
When contacting your ISP, provide the time of the drop, the speed-test result, and whether the issue also occurs over Ethernet. Those details can help the provider investigate; they are practical information to share, not a YouTube requirement.

When the warning may not be caused by your broadband
If many viewers on different networks report playback problems, do not assume that your upload speed is the cause. YouTube says this pattern may indicate an encoder issue. Check the encoder and the stream’s local appearance before attributing viewer reports to your ISP. The YouTube troubleshooting page describes this distinction.
The available guidance does not identify a particular Indian ISP, plan, regional outage, or India-wide upload-speed figure as the cause. Diagnose the connection used for your own stream instead of assuming that a national or provider-wide problem is responsible.
