If a YouTube livestream keeps disconnecting on ACT Fibernet, first check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room stream health and note the exact time of each drop. Then rule out encoder or computer problems, compare your outgoing bitrate with sustained upload capacity, and test over Ethernet if you have been using Wi-Fi. A disconnect alone does not show that ACT is responsible; the cause can be the encoder, home network, internet connection, or YouTube ingest settings.
1. Capture the disconnect and YouTube’s stream-health message
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room while streaming. Check the stream-health indicator and save any errors with their timestamps. YouTube’s dashboard checks the stream sent to YouTube and displays errors alongside the health indicator; its error reference explains that messages can be critical or moderate and remain visible with a timestamp. Use the message to identify a possible bitrate, format, keyframe, audio, or video-setting issue before assuming the internet connection failed. YouTube’s live-streaming error reference
Keep a simple log for each drop: date and time, the exact YouTube message, encoder log entry, whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and what the local recording did. Avoid changing multiple settings at once; otherwise, it is harder to tell which change affected the result.

2. Rule out the encoder and streaming computer
- Update your encoder software, then check its preview and error log around the time of the disconnect.
- Watch CPU load and look for encoder overload, dropped frames, or other warnings. A healthy internet test cannot correct a computer that cannot encode reliably.
- If you record locally while streaming, check whether the archive file continues to grow through the interruption and whether its picture and sound are intact. The local file is a useful comparison, not proof of the internet connection’s condition.
- If YouTube reports a format or bitrate error, compare your encoder’s codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current live encoder settings. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its H.264 table lists 1080p30 at 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended, 1080p60 at 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended, and 720p30 at 2 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not ACT speed measurements or guarantees; requirements differ by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so check the current table for your chosen settings.
YouTube advises that if the stream looks and sounds healthy in the encoder but problems continue, the outbound connection may be the issue. Its troubleshooting steps include testing the connection and contacting the internet provider if the test reveals problems.

3. Test sustained upload capacity, not just download speed
Run an internet speed test that reports upload speed. Repeat it, ideally near the time the stream usually drops. Compare the results with the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate—not the download result or only the speed advertised for your plan. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. It also advises allowing for shared usage and backup streams. For example, a 1080p60 H.264 stream set to YouTube’s recommended 17 Mbps needs more than 17 Mbps of dependable upload capacity to preserve the recommended headroom; the speed test must also reflect any other devices or simultaneous streams using the connection. A brief peak result does not establish that upload will remain steady throughout a live broadcast.

- For a diagnostic test, lower the encoder bitrate or resolution if upload results leave too little room.
- Pause large uploads and reduce other heavy internet use while testing.
- If you send a primary and backup stream, account for both in total outgoing bandwidth.
4. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, connect it to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat a test stream using the same encoder settings. This isolates wireless conditions more effectively than changing the bitrate and connection type at the same time. ACT’s home-networking guide identifies wiring condition, router distance and age, and the number of connected devices as factors affecting home-network performance.
- Ethernet works, Wi-Fi drops: Investigate Wi-Fi coverage, interference, router placement and condition, and the load from connected devices. A wired connection narrows the problem to the local wireless path or equipment; it does not by itself identify which component is at fault.
- Both connections drop: Note whether another internet connection works under similar conditions. A hotspot or other connection can provide a useful comparison, but differences in routing, time, device, encoder, and network load mean it is not a controlled test.
5. Check whether the problem is broadcaster-side or viewer-side
Compare your own stream-health data with reports from viewers. YouTube says a problem reported by one viewer is likely to involve that viewer’s device or connection. Several viewers on one shared internet connection point toward that network; reports from viewers on different connections may indicate an encoder or broadcaster-side issue. Ask affected viewers what device and connection they used, and compare their reports with the times in your log. YouTube troubleshooting guidance

6. Contact ACT with evidence if the outbound connection remains suspect
If the stream still drops over Ethernet, the encoder appears healthy, and upload tests show trouble, contact ACT and provide a concise record rather than reporting only that “YouTube disconnects.” Include:
- Dates and times of the drops, with YouTube Live Control Room health messages.
- Encoder errors or relevant logs, plus whether a local recording remained healthy.
- Upload test results and the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate.
- Whether the test used Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and whether another connection behaved differently.
Ask ACT to check for line issues and recurring disconnections. ACT’s customer-care page lists support options, and its networking guide describes registering a request through its website or app. Contact details and support hours can change, so verify the current options on ACT’s page.
