Compare wired and Wi-Fi results before treating the issue as an Airtel line fault: dropped frames during transmission are different from buffering viewers experience while watching.
Find out where the frames are being lost
Run a test stream before an important broadcast using movement and audio similar to the real programme. In YouTube Live Control Room, watch stream health and note when the drops happen. At the same time, check your encoder’s own output, network-drop warnings, rendering or encoding lag, and CPU load. YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring stream health.
- If the encoder preview or a local recording already looks poor, investigate the source, encoder settings, or computer load first.
- If the encoder reports network drops and YouTube reports a connection problem, test the network path and available upload capacity.
- If viewers on different networks report problems, YouTube says the encoder may be responsible; do not assume their reports alone identify Airtel as the cause.
YouTube’s guidance notes that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. The available official troubleshooting guidance is general; it does not document a specific Airtel–YouTube Live incompatibility or establish a fault on an individual Airtel connection.
Check the encoder settings and computer load
Confirm the stream configuration
Update the encoder software, then check that its selected codec, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval agree with the settings shown for the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends CBR, RTMP or RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Follow a specific Live Control Room warning if it identifies an incorrect setting.

For H.264 ingest, YouTube’s recommended bitrates and listed minimums are:

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a measurement of your Airtel upload speed or a guarantee that your connection can sustain a setting. For other resolutions, frame rates, or ingest codecs, use YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions table.

Match the setting to stable capacity
If your upload cannot sustain the selected bitrate with room to spare, lower the resolution or frame rate and test again. A practical comparison of the listed H.264 options:

There is no single best resolution for every Airtel subscriber. Test the actual content and chosen settings; stability also depends on other network traffic, encoder performance, and the route to YouTube.

Measure upload speed and leave headroom
Run a speed test that reports upload speed and ping. Download speed alone does not tell you how much capacity is available for sending a live stream. Airtel’s speed-test guidance recommends a wired test where possible.
YouTube recommends leaving about 20% room above the total stream bitrate. For example, a single stream set to 8 Mbps needs about 9.6 Mbps of upload capacity under that planning rule. Count both primary and backup streams if you use them, and account for other people and devices sharing the connection. This is a recommendation, not a performance guarantee.

- Pause downloads, cloud backups, and other heavy transfers for the test.
- Connect the streaming computer directly to the router or ONT with an RJ45 Cat5/Cat6 LAN cable, then record upload speed and ping.
- Repeat the measurement at the time of day when the stream usually drops; a result from a quiet period does not prove capacity will remain available during a busy stream.
- Compare the measured, stable upload capacity with the total stream bitrate and its headroom, then adjust the encoder if necessary.
Separate Wi-Fi problems from the wired broadband path
Compare Ethernet and Wi-Fi under otherwise similar conditions, with background traffic controlled. A wired run helps separate wireless interference or weak signal from problems elsewhere on the broadband path. For a clean comparison, connect the streaming computer to the router with a Cat6 Ethernet cable and repeat the upload test; a cable cannot fix provider-side congestion, a line fault, or encoder overload.
If Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi is not
- Move the router to an open, central location and reduce obstructions between it and the streaming computer.
- Test 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz where available. Airtel describes 2.4 GHz as longer-range but slower, and 5 GHz as faster with shorter range; choose based on the signal at the streaming device and verify by testing.
- If you have Airtel Xstream Fiber, Airtel describes Wi-Fi diagnosis and optimization through the Airtel Thanks app. App labels can change.
These band characteristics do not mean that changing bands or channels will necessarily fix packet loss.

When to contact Airtel
Escalate if wired upload performance or outbound connectivity remains poor, especially when the encoder’s local output is healthy and YouTube reports a connection problem. Airtel’s support routes can vary by service and location; its app and broadband support channels are starting points.
Give support specific evidence rather than only saying the stream drops:
- The dates and times the problem occurred.
- Wired and Wi-Fi upload-speed and ping results, with background downloads paused.
- YouTube Live Control Room stream-health messages and the encoder’s network, CPU, or rendering diagnostics.
- Whether other services are affected at the same time.
