If Microsoft says “We can’t create your account” because it detected unusual activity, start with Microsoft’s recommended checks: use another device, clear the browser cache, try another browser, leave private browsing, and make sure JavaScript is enabled. These steps can help identify a device or browser issue, but Microsoft does not promise that any one of them will clear every block.
What the error means
Microsoft says account creation was blocked because it detected unusual activity during signup. Its support page does not identify the specific signal or threshold behind an individual block, so the message alone cannot show whether the cause was a browser, device, network, or something else. Microsoft’s account-creation guidance lists troubleshooting steps rather than a guaranteed override.
Try Microsoft’s recommended checks
Make one change at a time and retry the signup page after each one. That makes it easier to tell whether a particular browser or device condition matters.
- Use another device. Open the Microsoft account signup page on a different phone, tablet, or computer. This is a diagnostic check; it does not prove that the first device is defective.
- Clear the browser cache. Clear cached browser data, then reopen the signup page and try again.
- Try a different browser. For example, if signup failed in one browser, test another browser already available on your device.
- Use a normal browsing window. Microsoft advises against private browsing for this check. Open a standard browser window and retry.
- Enable JavaScript. Check the browser’s settings and make sure JavaScript is allowed, then reload the signup page.
These five checks come from Microsoft’s support article. If a verification challenge appears, complete it as prompted; the January 3, 2026 Microsoft Q&A report describes a user who could not complete human verification on a phone, but it does not establish a general cause or fix for that problem. That Q&A thread includes community responses as well as the user’s report.

Community suggestions if the official checks do not help
Microsoft Q&A Independent Advisors have also suggested changing networks, trying mobile data, temporarily turning off a VPN or proxy, or pausing before trying again. These are community troubleshooting suggestions, not steps prescribed by the official support article, and they are not verified causes or guaranteed fixes.
In an August 27, 2025 Spanish-language Outlook account-creation thread, an Independent Advisor suggested trying another network or mobile data, temporarily disabling a VPN or proxy, clearing browser data, and waiting 24–48 hours. A December 21, 2025 thread included speculation by an Independent Advisor about repeated account creation, retries, VPN or proxy use, and network reputation. Some community replies suggest waiting 24–48 hours, but Microsoft’s official article does not specify a waiting period, and the sources do not establish a universal timeout. Treat a pause as an optional suggestion, not a deadline after which signup is certain to work.

Return to Microsoft’s official troubleshooting page and use Microsoft Support or the Microsoft community for further help. The available guidance does not document a guaranteed escalation route or recovery timeline. Avoid paid recovery services that promise to override the block; the cited guidance supports browser and device troubleshooting, not a paid workaround.
