To reduce lens flare on a Samsung Galaxy, clean every camera lens with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, change your angle relative to the bright light, and take a comparison photo without any camera protector or cover. If a photo is already taken, some Galaxy devices can remove a light streak in Gallery with Photo Assist, but editing availability and results vary.
First, tell lens flare from general overexposure
Lens flare usually appears as glare or a streak of light when a bright source shines into the camera. Overexposure is a photo that looks too bright and washed out. They can happen together: a bright source may cause flare while leaving some areas of the same frame too bright and others too dark. Samsung describes these as related but distinct issues in its Galaxy photo and video troubleshooting guide.
A single streak or haze when shooting toward the sun or another bright light is consistent with the normal optical effect Samsung describes. Samsung’s regional guidance notes that flare can be especially noticeable when the light is near the edge of the frame. A change in angle that makes the haze or streak shift or fade is a useful clue, not a guaranteed diagnostic test.
Try these fixes in order

Clean every camera lens
Wipe all camera lenses with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, then retake the photo. Samsung recommends cleaning all lenses, not only the one that appears to be in use, because additional cameras may be involved in preview, rangefinding, and autofocus. Avoid abrasive materials or liquids on the lenses.

Change the angle or reframe
Turn the phone slightly, shift your position, or move the bright source out of the frame and away from its edge. Avoid pointing directly at strong light where possible. Samsung describes flare as a normal effect in backlit scenes and recommends adjusting the shooting angle; small changes can help without changing the subject.

Compare at lower zoom
If you are using high zoom, take another shot at a lower zoom level. If your Galaxy offers another camera option, compare with it as well. Samsung notes flare may be more noticeable at high zoom; switching zoom or camera options is a test, not a guarantee that flare will disappear.

Take a shot without the camera protector or cover
Temporarily remove any accessory that sits over the camera, then take a comparison photo in similar light. Samsung warns that a protector or cover can cause light distortion as well as focus problems. If the image clears without it, the accessory may be contributing to the problem.

Can you remove flare from a photo you already took?
Samsung’s current US support guide documents an editing option for unwanted light effects: open the image in Gallery, use Photo Assist, select or draw around the light streak, and tap Erase. Labels and availability can vary by Galaxy model, region, and software version, so the option may not appear on every device.

Erasing a streak may reduce its appearance, but it cannot be relied on to reconstruct every detail perfectly. For future shots, cleaning the lenses and changing the angle are the more dependable first steps.

If haze remains across varied lighting after you have cleaned all lenses and removed any camera protector or cover, contact Samsung Support or an authorized service provider for a device-specific assessment. Samsung’s guidance does not set a universal pass/fail threshold for hardware damage, so persistent haze alone is not enough to conclude that a camera module has failed.
