First find out where sync breaks: compare vMix’s local output or recording with the YouTube playback. If audio is already early or late locally, correct the affected input’s delay in vMix. If the local version is synchronized but YouTube is not, investigate stream health, encoder load, the archive and upload connection before changing an audio offset.

Find where the audio goes out of sync

Make a short test using the same video, audio path and stream settings as the 24/7 broadcast. Include a clear visible action paired with a sound, such as a hand clap. Compare vMix’s local program output or recording with the YouTube playback in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the real stream.

  • Both local output and YouTube are out of sync: investigate the production and input timing first.
  • Local output is synchronized but YouTube is not: focus on encoding and delivery evidence rather than changing the vMix input offset.
  • The mismatch changes over time: note when it starts and whether it worsens; changing input delay is suited to a measured input-timing offset, not a delivery problem that appears later.

For a continuous broadcast, record the time of each observed change. In YouTube Live Control Room, use stream-health status and error timestamps to correlate symptoms with the local recording and operating conditions. See YouTube’s live-stream metrics guidance.

Correct a local input-timing problem in vMix

vMix notes that separately added camera and audio inputs can arrive at different times, and audio may arrive sooner. Its input Delay setting is adjusted per audio input; there is no universal millisecond value that fits every system.

  1. In vMix, open Audio Mixer.
  2. Click the settings button for the affected audio input.
  3. Choose General, then locate Delay.
  4. Use the clap or another repeatable visual-and-audio cue to determine the direction of the error. If sound is early, increase the audio delay.
  5. Make a small change, repeat the test, and check the local output again. Continue only while the measured mismatch improves.

Use the setting for the input that is actually mistimed. If camera audio is embedded in a capture-card input while a separate microphone is connected independently, compare those paths rather than applying an arbitrary delay to every source. vMix’s instructions are in its audio-delay guide.

If only YouTube playback is out of sync

Do not use an input delay to mask a problem that is absent from the local output. YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder, Live Control Room errors, encoder CPU load, local archive files and outbound connection strength. Inspect the affected time in the local recording if available; if the encoder’s output is healthy, YouTube identifies the outbound internet connection as a possible source.

  • Review Live Control Room stream-health messages and their timestamps.
  • Check encoder CPU load and whether errors coincide with the sync change.
  • Inspect the local archive around the affected time, if one exists.
  • Compare the issue with changes in network use or connection quality.

Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps. The timestamps help distinguish a source-timing fault from trouble introduced during encoding or delivery.

Check upload headroom and vMix buffering

YouTube recommends that available upload bandwidth exceed the total streaming bitrate by 20%. Measure upload capacity at the actual streaming location, including during the periods when the issue occurs. A shared connection can leave less capacity available than a speed test taken under different conditions suggests. The 20% figure is YouTube’s recommendation, not a measurement of any particular Indian ISP or connection.

vMix’s Network Buffer is the maximum time vMix can buffer; server and player buffers add further latency. vMix says increasing the network buffer may help when network speed is unreliable. A larger buffer can also increase delay, and it does not correct the input timing adjusted by the Audio Mixer’s Delay setting. Do not treat stream latency and audio/video lip sync as the same control. See YouTube’s streaming tips and vMix Help 27: Streaming Quality.

Verify encoder settings against YouTube guidance

Review the selected encoder settings and compare them with YouTube’s current guidance and the messages in Live Control Room. The cited YouTube encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS video codecs and audio codec options. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and 44.1 kHz for stereo audio. Its recommended stereo audio bitrate is 128 kbps. These are platform recommendations, not a diagnosis by themselves.

vMix Help 27 states that AAC is the audio option when FFMPEG is selected. Confirm the actual vMix encoder choice and settings rather than assuming every configuration uses the same audio option. Avoid changing multiple settings at once: change one item, run a representative test, and compare local output, YouTube playback and stream-health messages. Refer to YouTube’s encoder settings and vMix’s streaming quality guidance.

Keep evidence and monitor a 24/7 stream

YouTube recommends continuous monitoring of audio/video quality and stream health. When practical, keep a local recording or archive and verify that it is growing; inspect the segment covering the fault rather than relying on memory of the live playback.

YouTube’s encoder setup page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not promise that a 24-hour broadcast will be preserved as one complete archive. Confirm archive behavior for the channel and arrange a way to preserve evidence across long runs. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and YouTube’s live-stream tips.

Common symptoms and what to check

Symptom First checks
Audio is early in vMix and on YouTube Measure the input mismatch with a repeatable cue, then increase the affected audio input’s Delay in Audio Mixer settings > General.
Audio is late locally and on YouTube Recheck the input timing and routing; do not copy a delay value from another setup.
Local output is synchronized but YouTube is not Check encoder output, stream-health errors and timestamps, CPU load, local archive and outbound connection before changing input delay.
Sync worsens or changes during the broadcast Correlate the change with stream-health timestamps, encoder load and upload conditions. A fixed input delay may not address a fault that develops downstream.
Network speed is unreliable Measure upload at the stream location under operating conditions; check shared use and leave the upload headroom YouTube recommends. Consider vMix buffering only as a network reliability measure, accounting for added latency.
A long-run archive is incomplete or unavailable Do not assume a 24-hour stream becomes one archive; inspect local recordings and confirm the channel’s archive behavior.

Does streaming from India change the diagnosis?

The cited official platform and product guidance does not identify India as a specific cause of audio sync drift. Treat location as a reason to measure upload stability where the stream actually runs and check whether the connection is shared—not as proof that geography or a particular provider caused the fault. Correlate any network changes with stream-health timestamps.

If the camera and audio use separate connections, vMix’s input guide gives embedded camera audio through a capture-card input as an example of a combined path. A compatible capture card may be worth considering only after confirming the camera, connection standard and current routing. It is not a default purchase or a guaranteed fix for a downstream YouTube or network fault.
