Start by checking whether the message includes an error code, then try the same title on another device and—if possible—another network. Disney’s “Something went wrong” message is broad: Error 83 is commonly associated with device compatibility or connection trouble, but a different code, a sign-in failure, or a problem limited to one title can need a different fix.
Use the exact wording and code to choose the right path below. Avoid buying a new device or changing your subscription until tests show that your current equipment or account is the cause.
First, identify when the error appears
Note the full message and any code. Also note whether it appears before sign-in, after entering your credentials, at profile selection, when opening a title, or after playback starts. That timing helps separate account, app, connection, and display problems.
Error 83
Disney describes Error 83 as “Something went wrong. Please try again…” and associates it mainly with device compatibility or connection issues. It is a broad indication, not proof of one specific fault or a Disney+ outage. See Disney’s Error 83 guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A similar message with no code—or another code
Do not assume a code-free “Sorry, something went wrong” message is Error 83. Disney’s error-code index covers other possibilities, including Errors 14, 42, 43, 73, 75, 91, 92, 93, 1026, and 142. Follow the entry for the code actually shown; login, location, authorization, and playback errors are not interchangeable.
Run three tests to find the likely cause
- Try another title. If other titles play, the issue may be limited to that title, its availability in your location, or its delivery.
- Try another device on the same Wi-Fi. If Disney+ works there, focus on the original device, app, browser, or its connection.
- Try a different network. If available, test Disney+ on a phone using cellular data or a hotspot. If it works off home Wi-Fi but fails on every device at home, investigate the router, ISP, DNS, or home network.
Also try another streaming service on the affected device. If that fails too, the device or general connection deserves attention. These comparisons narrow the cause; they do not prove it by themselves.
| What you find | More likely area to investigate |
|---|---|
| Disney+ fails on multiple devices and networks | Account access or a Disney+ service-side problem |
| Disney+ fails on home Wi-Fi but works on cellular | Router, ISP, DNS, or home-network path |
| Disney+ fails on only one device | That device’s app, cache, software, compatibility, or local connection |
| Only one title fails | Title-specific playback, availability, or delivery |
| Other streaming services fail on the same device | General connection or device trouble |
A failure across devices and networks is a reason to check account access and contact Disney+, not confirmation of a live outage. Disney’s help pages provide troubleshooting and support options but do not establish real-time service status.
Try the least disruptive fixes first
- Fully close and reopen Disney+. Exit the app rather than leaving it in the background with the Home button. Disney recommends fully exiting Disney+ and other background programs before reopening them (Disney streaming troubleshooting).
- Restart the device. Restart the TV, phone, streaming stick, console, or computer, then try the same title again. A TV in standby may not have fully restarted; use its restart control or, where appropriate, disconnect its power briefly.
- Update Disney+ and the device software. Install the app update from the device’s official app store and check for operating-system or firmware updates. Menu paths vary by device.
- Refresh the browser. If you are using DisneyPlus.com, reload the page. If it remains stuck, close and reopen the browser, then test another supported browser.
- Restart the modem and router. Follow the power-cycle steps below if the problem appears network-related.
Power-cycle the modem and router
- Turn off the Disney+ device.
- Power off or unplug the modem and router, then give them a brief moment to shut down.
- Restart the modem and wait for its connection to return.
- Restart the router and wait for Wi-Fi or wired internet to return.
- Restart the Disney+ device, open the app, and test again.
If practical, move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router, pause large downloads or other streams, or test with Ethernet. A mobile hotspot can help isolate the home network, but it may use mobile data. A speed test alone cannot rule out packet loss, interference, DNS trouble, congestion, or intermittent drops. Disney lists unstable internet, router or modem problems, distance from the router, connected devices, and ISP outages among possible streaming issues (Disney’s streaming troubleshooting page).

Check device and browser compatibility
Error 83 can occur when the device or access method is unsupported. Use Disney+ through an official app where available, or through a current supported browser; avoid unofficial app packages and obsolete software. Disney’s exact device support varies by model, operating system, app availability, and location, so check the current requirements for your specific device rather than relying on one universal device list.
- Windows: Disney lists the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera on Windows 10 or newer.
- Mac: Disney lists the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari on macOS 11 or newer.
- ChromeOS: Use the latest Chrome version.
- Android phones and tablets in the United States: Disney lists Android 6.0 or later.
Requirements can change; confirm them on Disney’s computer browser requirements and Android mobile devices pages. Update the browser and operating system before retesting.
Clear cache or local Disney+ data
Clearing cache removes temporary files and is usually less disruptive. Clearing app data or browser site data is a stronger reset that can sign you out and remove local settings; depending on the platform, it may affect downloads. Try cache first where that option exists. Disney’s device cache instructions provide platform-specific guidance.
Android phone or tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then select Disney+.
- Tap Storage.
- Choose Clear Cache; if the problem remains, choose Clear Data.
Disney notes that cache clearing is available only on selected Android models; labels may differ.

Apple TV and other devices
Disney recommends uninstalling and reinstalling Disney+ to clear cached data on Apple TV. For PlayStation, Xbox, Samsung, LG, Hisense, Chromecast, and Xfinity devices, use Disney’s device-specific instructions rather than assuming the same menu path applies; controls vary by model and software version.
Computer browser
Clear Disney+ site data or the browser’s cache and cookies in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari. This may sign you out, as Disney warns on its browser cache help page.
Fix Disney+ in a browser
- Use the latest supported browser version for your computer and operating system.
- Make sure JavaScript and cookies are enabled for DisneyPlus.com; Disney includes both checks in its browser troubleshooting guidance.
- Temporarily disable extensions that can block scripts or content, such as ad blockers, privacy tools, and script blockers.
- Try a private or incognito window as a diagnostic. If Disney+ works there, cookies or extensions may be involved; private browsing is not a required permanent fix.
- Sign out and back in, clear Disney+ site data if necessary, or test another supported browser.
Check the TV, HDMI, and HDCP chain
If the app opens but fails when a title starts—especially when switching to 4K or HDR—check the path from the streaming device through any receiver or HDMI switch to the display. Disney says the components must support high-bandwidth digital content, and external displays should support HDCP 2.2 for 4K Ultra HD and HDR playback (Disney streaming troubleshooting).
- Reseat both ends of the HDMI cable and try another TV HDMI port.
- Temporarily connect the streaming device directly to the TV instead of through an AV receiver or HDMI switch.
- Test another HDMI cable and install available TV or receiver firmware updates.
- Check whether every device in the chain supports the required HDCP level for the resolution you are trying to play.
HDCP is a less likely explanation for a failure before sign-in or on a login page; focus on the display chain when playback is the point of failure.

Handle sign-in, profile, and region errors separately
If the problem occurs while signing in or choosing a profile, verify the email address and password, then test the account through a supported browser or another device. Reset the password if you may have mistyped it or suspect someone else has access. Do not create a new account as a first fix; it can complicate billing, profiles, and subscription access without resolving the cause.
If Disney displays a login-related code such as Error 14, or a throttling or suspicious-activity code such as Error 91, 92, or 93, use the relevant entry in the official error-code index. Avoid repeated sign-in attempts when the displayed message indicates throttling or suspicious activity.
Error 73 is different from an ordinary device fault: Disney’s error index describes it as content not being available in the viewer’s current location. If you use a VPN or proxy, disable it temporarily and retry; it can interfere with location detection or playback. Check whether the device, network, or account region is being misidentified, and use Disney’s regional guidance if traveling. Catalog availability and support differ by country; the contact details below are for the United States. Do not use a VPN as a workaround for regional restrictions.
Reinstall Disney+ if the earlier steps fail
- Uninstall Disney+ from the affected device.
- Restart the device.
- Reinstall Disney+ from its official app store.
- Sign in again and test a title that previously failed.
Disney recommends reinstalling to obtain the latest app version (streaming troubleshooting). Reinstallation may remove downloaded content or require you to sign in again. It will not resolve an account issue, unsupported hardware, or a service-side problem by itself.

When to contact Disney+ support
Contact support if the error persists on multiple supported devices and networks, you cannot sign in anywhere, or the code points to throttling, suspicious activity, authorization, or region. It is also reasonable to escalate after updates, a network restart, and reinstalling fail to change the result.
Before contacting support, have these details ready:
- The exact message and error code, if shown
- Device make and model, plus operating-system or firmware version
- Disney+ app version or browser name and version
- Whether one title or all titles fail
- Whether Disney+ works on another device or another network
- The approximate date and time the error occurred
- A screenshot, if it contains no sensitive information
For U.S. subscribers, Disney’s Disney+ contact page offers virtual-assistant and chat support and lists 888-905-7888 for Disney+ support. Local or international charges may apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will clearing the cache delete my Disney+ account?
No. Clearing cache does not delete the account itself, but clearing app data or browser site data may sign you out and remove local settings. Follow the device-specific instructions and be ready to sign in again.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Why does Disney+ work on my phone but not my TV?
That points toward the TV’s app, software, compatibility, or connection path rather than a problem affecting every device. Update the TV and app, restart it, and test another network or HDMI path if playback is the failure point.
Should I buy a new streaming device to fix Error 83?
Not before testing Disney+ on another supported device and network. Error 83 is broad; those tests can help establish whether compatibility or the local connection is actually involved.
