If a smart-home accessory shows “No Response” in Apple Home, first check whether the problem affects one manufacturer or several. A one-brand failure points you toward those accessories and their manufacturer’s app; failures across brands call for checking your Apple device, Wi-Fi, router, bridges, and home hub. Apple’s support instructions call the platform Apple Home and the app Home—not “homeOS.”
Start by identifying what is affected
In the Home app, check whether the problem is limited to accessories from one manufacturer or includes devices from several manufacturers. After each troubleshooting step, check Home again before moving on.

- One manufacturer: Start with accessory power, its manufacturer’s app and firmware, and any bridge used by those accessories.
- Several manufacturers: Check the Apple device and shared network, then restart the router or modem, bridges, and home hubs if needed.
If an accessory also fails in its manufacturer’s app, troubleshoot it there first; the issue may not be specific to Apple Home.

Fix “No Response” when one manufacturer’s accessories are affected
- Check Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad, or in Mac System Settings.
- Restart the accessory. For a battery-powered device, remove and reinstall its batteries if appropriate.
- Check the manufacturer’s app. Look for a firmware update and see whether the accessory responds there. If it fails in that app too, Apple advises following the manufacturer’s instructions to reset it.
- Restart bridges and home hubs. Unplug third-party bridges and home hubs, then reconnect their power.
- For a third-party Thread accessory, allow time for the network to settle. Disconnect it from power for five minutes, reconnect it, then wait ten minutes for the Thread network to stabilize.
- Remove and reset the accessory only if it still fails. Follow the manufacturer’s reset instructions, then add the accessory to Home again. Resetting can mean setup work, so leave it until the earlier checks have failed.
If the accessory remains unresponsive, contact its manufacturer.

Fix “No Response” across accessories from several manufacturers
- Update and reopen Home. Install current software on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then close and reopen the Home app.
- Check the local connection. Put your Apple device on the same Wi-Fi network as the accessories. Turn on Bluetooth, restart affected accessories, and check for firmware updates in their manufacturer apps.
- Check remote-control requirements. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance says a configured home hub is needed to control accessories remotely. Apple identifies HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home-hub devices.
- Apply the Thread restart timing if relevant. For third-party Thread accessories that are not responding, disconnect power for five minutes, reconnect, and wait ten minutes for the Thread network to stabilize.
- Restart shared equipment if the problem remains. Restart the modem or router, third-party bridges and home hubs, affected accessories, and the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Check network-interference possibilities. Apple advises checking whether a VPN or third-party security software may be affecting network connectivity.
If accessories from several manufacturers still do not respond, contact Apple Support.
If you can’t add a smart-home accessory to the Home app
For setup, use an iPhone or iPad rather than a Mac. Update the device, turn on Bluetooth, and follow the accessory manual; some products require extra hardware, software, or setup in the manufacturer’s app. Confirm that the accessory supports Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter.

Some accessories do not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If you see this alert, check whether your iPhone or iPad is connected to a Wi-Fi network that supports 2.4 GHz, as Apple advises. This is not a limitation of every smart-home accessory.

“Accessory is not supported”
Check for a firmware update in the manufacturer’s app and confirm that the specific model supports Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter. Compatibility is not guaranteed just because another product from the same manufacturer works with Home.
Matter setup and hubs
Apple’s setup guidance says an iPhone with iOS 18 or later can add and control Matter accessories without a hub; Apple recommends a hub for the best experience. Requirements depend on the device’s software and setup scenario, so check Apple’s current instructions for your accessory and software version.

When a home hub helps—and when it does not
A home hub is relevant when you need remote control away from home. It can also be relevant to a Matter setup depending on the accessory and software, although Apple says an iPhone with iOS 18 or later can add and control Matter devices without one. Apple names HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV as home hubs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA hub is not a universal fix. It will not restore power to an accessory, install its firmware, resolve a failure in its own manufacturer’s app, or make an incompatible accessory work. Diagnose those issues before buying or changing hub hardware.

Replacing an accessory or bridge
If troubleshooting points to incompatibility or a failed device, check these details before choosing a replacement:
- Explicit support for Apple Home, HomeKit, or Matter for the exact model.
- Required Wi-Fi band or other radio, including 2.4 GHz if that model requires it.
- Whether the accessory needs a manufacturer’s bridge or additional hardware.
- The manufacturer’s firmware-update, setup, reset, and support instructions.
Apple’s previous Home architecture reached its support end date on February 10, 2026. That date alone does not establish the cause of a particular connection problem: check Apple’s current requirements for your software and devices before treating an architecture issue as the diagnosis.
