If YouTube uploads are slow on BSNL broadband, first check the connection’s upload speed, not just its download speed. Then compare one device on Wi-Fi and Ethernet, pause other network traffic, and repeat the test at a quieter time. These checks can help distinguish a large file or local Wi-Fi issue from time-of-day congestion or a possible plan or line problem; no single test proves a BSNL fault.
Is the video transferring slowly or still processing?
First check the status shown in YouTube Studio or on the upload page. Uploading transfers the file from your device to YouTube; processing happens after the transfer and prepares the video for playback at different resolutions. If the file has finished uploading but higher resolutions are not available yet, your broadband upload speed is not necessarily the cause.
YouTube says upload duration can range from minutes to hours depending on file size, bandwidth, upload traffic, and other factors. Higher-quality videos, including 4K, take longer to transfer than 1080p. YouTube also identifies slow or unstable internet as a main cause of slow uploads. YouTube’s upload troubleshooting help explains these factors.
Why is my YouTube upload so slow on BSNL broadband?
Several different limits can produce the same symptom. A large file takes longer at any given sustained upload rate; a Wi-Fi problem can affect one device even when the broadband line is working normally; other users or cloud backups can compete for capacity; and results may vary by time of day. Your BSNL plan’s advertised download rate does not, by itself, tell you its upload rate. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound bandwidth. YouTube’s connection guidance distinguishes upload from download capacity.

Use the checks below as comparisons. A difference between two tests narrows down where to investigate, but does not alone establish the cause or prove that a particular BSNL network component is at fault.
How to diagnose and fix a slow YouTube upload

Measure upload speed and record the conditions
Run an internet speed test on the device you use to upload. Record the upload result, time, and whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Repeat it more than once. YouTube recommends checking connection speed when uploads are slow, but a speed test is only a snapshot: it cannot guarantee that the route to YouTube will sustain that rate for the entire transfer. Do not use a plan’s download figure as an upload estimate unless BSNL states the same upload rate for your exact plan.

Pause competing traffic
For a controlled check, pause other video uploads, cloud backups, large file transfers, and heavy use on other household devices. Then repeat the test. Compare with a quieter time as well. YouTube notes that shared connections can limit an individual device and that an ISP may see upload-traffic spikes during peak hours, making a YouTube upload take longer. A better result off-peak is a useful clue, not proof of a specific congestion point.

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet
If your computer and router or ONT have compatible Ethernet ports, connect them directly by cable and repeat the same speed check. YouTube’s system requirements guidance says a hardwired connection instead of wireless may help. YouTube’s system requirements do not promise that Ethernet will make every upload faster; use it to compare stability and speed.

If Ethernet is much faster or steadier, investigate Wi-Fi signal strength, distance, interference, or the wireless capability of the device before replacing equipment. A cable is an optional diagnostic tool, not a guaranteed fix. Do not replace the router, ONT, or fibre equipment without evidence that it is defective or is the measured bottleneck.

Check file size, format, and upload progress
Look at the file’s size and format. YouTube identifies both as relevant, and recommends its supported formats; its recommended upload encoding settings provide format guidance. A smaller export may transfer sooner, but reducing file size can involve a quality trade-off. You do not need a particular paid encoder to diagnose the broadband connection.

If the upload is still progressing, let it finish rather than cancelling just because it seems slow. If an upload was interrupted, YouTube says you can continue it for up to 24 hours: return to youtube.com/upload and select the same file. This continuation window is YouTube’s stated guidance, not a guarantee that every interruption will resume successfully.

Check the exact BSNL service and plan terms
Confirm your service type, plan, stated upload terms, and any data threshold with BSNL for your circle. Plan terms vary by service and location, so an advertised download rate—or a plan listing for another city or reseller—does not establish your upload entitlement. The Government of India’s Digital Bharat Nidhi/BharatNet information illustrates that FTTH listings may state service tiers, upload terms, and thresholds separately; its examples are specific to that listing and are not universal BSNL plan terms.

Escalate repeat poor wired results
If repeated tests remain poor across devices, including a wired comparison where practical, contact BSNL through its official technical complaint route or broadband customer care at 1800-4444. Share your plan and service type, time-stamped test results, whether each result was Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether performance changes at different times. This information can help describe the issue; BSNL’s pages do not state that it is a mandatory complaint form.
How long should a YouTube upload take?
There is no single expected duration without the file size and sustained upload rate. A larger file takes longer at the same rate, and a speed test may not reflect the rate maintained throughout the transfer. YouTube once gave an illustrative example that a 1 GB file at a 512 kbps uplink could take over four hours; that 2018 community response is an example, not a current service guarantee or universal calculator. For your case, use the file size and measured upload rate only as a rough sanity check, and allow for connection variation and upload traffic.
