If your 24/7 YouTube radio livestream is live but silent, trace the audio path in order: confirm the radio source plays, check that OBS receives and routes it, listen to the encoder output, then review YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health. This identifies where the signal disappears before you change settings that may not be related.
Find where the audio stops
A silent stream can result from a source that is not playing, a missing or muted input, incorrect mixer routing, an encoder output problem, or an issue during transmission or YouTube ingestion. Work through these checks from source to destination. OBS and YouTube’s exact interface labels can vary by version.
1. Confirm the radio source is playing
Play the audio where it originates, or check the source application’s own output or status. If the source is silent before it reaches OBS, troubleshoot playback there first. Check that the intended recording, playlist, or radio feed has actually started.

2. Check the OBS input and mixer
While audio should be playing, watch the meter for the relevant source in OBS’s Audio Mixer. OBS says, “If the indicator is missing it means there is no audio streaming toward OBS.” A meter with no activity points to a problem at or before that input: playback may not have started, the selected device may be unavailable, or a connection may be missing.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.

- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
- Confirm the intended audio source or capture device is selected and connected.
- Check that neither the source nor its mixer channel is muted.
- Confirm the source is routed to the stream’s output, rather than only to local monitoring or another destination.
- If you use an audio interface, check that it is connected and selected.
OBS’s mixer and monitoring controls can help locate a break in the path. A moving meter shows that audio is reaching that OBS stage; it does not prove that the encoder is sending it to YouTube.
3. Check what the encoder is sending
YouTube recommends checking how the stream looks and sounds in the encoder, reviewing the audio and video sources routed to it, checking Live Control Room errors, and inspecting a local archive if available. YouTube Help notes: “If your stream looks or sounds bad, there may be a problem with the quality of your audio and the video sources routed to your encoder.”

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
If the encoder output is silent, keep investigating the source, mute state, routing, or output configuration. If it sounds healthy, shift your attention to the connection to YouTube and the stream’s ingestion status.
4. Read YouTube’s stream health messages
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the broadcast and review stream health and any error messages. YouTube checks the incoming stream and reports errors with timestamps; its error list includes an ingestion stream with no audio. Use the timestamp to compare the error with when viewers noticed silence or when a source, device, or connection changed.

- Compact, feature-rich livestreaming USB audio mixer provides high-quality sound for desktop audio production
- Plug-and-play connectivity to computer or mobile device (no special drivers required)
- Loopback function makes it easy to mix mic and instrument inputs with background music, game sounds, or other audio input from a computer – and send the stereo mix back to the computer for streaming
- High-performance A/D converter with resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz provides crystal-clear output for voice and instruments
- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
Correct the underlying audio path, then check whether the message clears. A health error is a useful clue about what YouTube is receiving, but it does not by itself identify which upstream device or setting caused the problem.
5. Change format settings only when the error calls for it
If YouTube reports an incorrect-format error, its guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion. Check the encoder’s output settings against that message. Do not change formats as a blanket remedy for silence: if YouTube is not reporting a format problem, continue tracing the source, routing, encoder output, and connection.

Use the symptom to choose your next check
| What you observe | Where to investigate | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| No sound from the source, or no OBS meter activity | Playback, source connection, or selected capture device | Confirm playback has started and that the intended source or device is available. |
| OBS meter moves, but encoder output is silent | Mixer mute, stream routing, or encoder output configuration | Inspect the channel’s mute and routing state, then check the encoder output. |
| Encoder output sounds healthy, but YouTube is silent | Outbound connection, YouTube ingestion, or a reported format error | Review Live Control Room stream health and timestamped errors. |
| Audio interface is missing or disconnected | Hardware connection or device selection | Reconnect it, select the intended device, and test again. |
These observations indicate where to investigate next, not guaranteed causes. If an interface is disconnected, reconnect and test it before considering replacement. A disconnected device is one possible explanation for missing input, not proof that the hardware is defective.

Why a moving OBS meter may not be enough
The meter confirms audio is reaching the indicated OBS mixer stage. It cannot establish that the channel is routed to the live output, that the encoder’s output contains sound, or that YouTube is receiving and ingesting audio. Continue along the signal path: check routing, verify the encoder output, and use YouTube’s Live Control Room messages to assess ingestion.
