If an Edge screenshot shows only what is on screen, choose Capture full page rather than Capture area. Open the page’s right-click menu or Edge’s Settings and more (…) menu and look for Screenshot or Web capture; you can also try Ctrl+Shift+S. If the full-page option is missing or fails, update and restart Edge, check whether the page scrolls inside a frame or panel, and use Edge DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot as a built-in fallback.
Use Edge’s full-page screenshot command
Edge’s built-in screenshot feature can capture an entire webpage, including content below the visible viewport, or just a selected area. It also lets you review the capture and mark it up, copy it, or save it. Microsoft’s documentation describes access through the page’s context menu, the Edge menu, or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S. Depending on your device, market, and browser version, the feature or its wording may differ.
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click the page, open Settings and more (…) , or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Screenshot or Web capture, depending on the label shown in your Edge version.
- Select Capture full page for a scrolling screenshot. Choose Capture area if you only want a portion of the page.
- Review the result. For an area capture, use Copy or Markup capture if you want to annotate it, then save the image.
If the capture contains only the visible screen, first check that you chose Capture full page, not Capture area. If the full-page choice is absent, try both the menu and shortcut: rollout differences can mean one entry point is available when another is not.
Why a scrolling screenshot may stop early
The wrong capture mode was selected
Capture area captures a selected region, not the entire document. Start again and choose Capture full page. If the feature opens directly into a selection overlay, look for the mode choices before drawing a rectangle.

The page scrolls inside a frame or panel
A page does not always scroll as one document. A sidebar, embedded frame, document viewer, or application panel may have its own scrollbar. Microsoft Q&A describes a limitation in which full-page capture works when the scroll is in the page body, but may not capture content whose scrolling belongs to another element.
Try scrolling inside the relevant panel and selecting that area if Edge allows it. If the content is embedded, open it directly in a tab when possible, then capture it there. When the content cannot be separated from the page, DevTools may be worth trying, but a nested scroll container is a page-structure issue rather than simply a missing menu command.
The page or browser is not ready
A busy page, limited available memory, an extension that changes page behavior, or a browser problem can interfere with page display and capture. Reduce the number of open tabs and extensions, restart Edge, and retry before concluding the feature is unavailable.

Fix a missing option or failed capture
1. Check the command name and entry points
Look for both Screenshot and Web capture in the page context menu and Settings and more. Try Ctrl+Shift+S as well. Microsoft notes that Screenshot availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version, so a label or menu choice shown elsewhere may not match yours.
2. Update Edge
Open Settings and more (…) > Settings > About Microsoft Edge. If Edge offers an update, apply it and retry the capture. Updating is one of Microsoft Support’s first-line recommendations for Edge problems.
3. Restart Edge and reduce browser load
Close tabs you do not need, turn off unnecessary extensions temporarily, and close other apps that are using substantial resources. Then restart Edge and test the same page again. Microsoft Support notes that low available memory can prevent pages from loading correctly and recommends closing unused tabs and extensions.

4. Clear cached browsing files
If the page itself is displaying incorrectly, try clearing cached files. In Edge, go to Settings and more (…) > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data. Set the time range to All time, select Browsing history and Cached images and files, then choose Clear now. Clearing the cache can sometimes fix page-display problems, according to Microsoft Support. It is a troubleshooting step for display problems, not a guaranteed fix for a page that scrolls in an inner panel.
5. Isolate extension interference
Temporarily disable extensions that alter page layout, scrolling, privacy settings, or screenshots, then retry in a clean tab. If that resolves the issue, turn extensions back on one at a time to identify the conflict. Microsoft Support recommends removing extensions that are not needed when Edge is failing; follow your organization’s policy if this is a managed browser.

Close Edge, then open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Select Microsoft Edge, choose Modify, and select Repair. Microsoft says this process requires an internet connection and administrative rights, and should not affect browser data or settings. Repair is more appropriate when Edge itself is unstable than when one website uses a separate scrollable frame.

7. Send feedback if the control remains missing
If the Screenshot or Web capture command is still unavailable after updating and restarting, use Settings and more (…) > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Include your Edge version, device type, and whether the command is missing from the menu, the shortcut, or both; those details help distinguish an availability difference from a capture failure.
Use Edge DevTools as a built-in fallback
DevTools has a separate full-page capture command. Microsoft’s developer documentation says it captures the whole page, including content that is not currently visible in the viewport.
- Open the target page in Edge and open DevTools.
- If needed, enable the device toolbar.
- Open More options (…) in DevTools.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
Use this when Edge’s regular screenshot overlay is missing or returns only the viewport, particularly if you are comfortable with developer tools. It is still a browser capture of the page; it does not turn content in every independently scrolling frame or panel into one continuous document.

How the available capture paths differ
| Method | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Edge Screenshot or Web capture | A quick full-page or selected-area capture with built-in review and markup. | Availability and menu wording vary; page structure can affect full-page results. |
| Edge DevTools | A native fallback when the regular overlay is missing or limited to the viewport. | Requires opening DevTools; less direct for casual captures. |
| Browser extension | Repeated captures or workflows that need a dedicated add-on. | Requires installation; permissions, page structure, Edge version, and organization policy can affect whether it is suitable. |
Microsoft Q&A mentions extensions such as GoFullPage and Page Screenshot as optional alternatives when Web Capture is unavailable. Check an extension’s permissions and compatibility before installing it, and use only extensions allowed by your organization. For occasional captures, try Edge’s built-in command and DevTools before adding software.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to capture a URL from a developer workflow rather than use Edge’s on-screen markup, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its cleanup options can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
The cURL example below saves a WebP capture. Replace the example URL with the page you are authorized to capture. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for available parameters and setup.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting at a glance
| What you see | Likely reason | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Only the visible viewport is captured | Area mode was selected, or the page’s content scrolls inside another element. | Choose Capture full page; inspect the page’s scroll container; try DevTools’ full-size capture. |
| Screenshot or Web capture is missing | The name or availability differs for the device, market, or Edge version. | Try the context menu, Edge menu, and Ctrl+Shift+S; update Edge. |
| The page looks incomplete or behaves oddly | Cache, extensions, high browser load, or low available memory may be involved. | Restart Edge, reduce tabs, disable extensions temporarily, and clear cached files if display problems persist. |
| Edge has broader stability problems | The problem may affect the browser, not just screenshot capture. | Use the Edge repair path; send feedback if the screenshot command remains absent. |
