Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf ScreenshotOne returns timeout_error, identify whether the target is slow to respond, the capture is taking too long to render, or your own client is giving up first. Remove unnecessary delay, choose a suitable wait_until, and adjust the relevant timeout; use asynchronous requests with webhooks for work that may exceed the synchronous window. Treat a proxy as a targeted retry for likely IP or routing problems, not a default fix.
What ScreenshotOne’s timeout_error means
ScreenshotOne uses timeout_error when it cannot finish rendering a screenshot or video within the request’s allowed time. Its guidance identifies two broad possibilities: the website did not respond quickly enough, or rendering took longer than expected. The error alone does not establish which phase was responsible. See ScreenshotOne’s timeout error guidance.
Two timeout settings cover different stages. In ScreenshotOne’s current options documentation, the overall timeout has a 60-second default and a 90-second maximum for a regular request. navigation_timeout, for waiting for the target site to respond, has a 30-second default and maximum. These are documented settings, not guarantees that a page will finish rendering within those periods. ScreenshotOne says asynchronous requests with webhooks can use an overall timeout of up to 300 seconds. Check the current request options and error guidance when configuring a request.
Diagnose the phase before changing settings
Change one relevant variable at a time and compare the response with your caller’s logs. That makes it easier to tell whether the problem is a site response, rendering work, or an earlier abort by your own application.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Target response stalls: check
navigation_timeoutand whether the target is reachable from the capture service. - Capture exceeds its budget: inspect
timeout, the chosen wait condition, fixed delay, and whether full-page capture adds rendering work. - Your caller stops waiting: check its HTTP client, server, or serverless execution timeout. A client-side abort is distinct from ScreenshotOne’s own
timeout_error.
Fix the timeout in a controlled sequence
1. Remove delay you do not need
The delay option adds a fixed wait before capture; its documented default is zero seconds. A large delay consumes time that could otherwise be used for navigation and rendering. Remove it or reduce it unless the page needs a specific extra wait, such as for content that appears after the initial load. ScreenshotOne discusses delay in its timeout guidance and rendering performance guide.
2. Match wait_until to the page
ScreenshotOne documents load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2; the options reference defaults to load. These conditions wait for different milestones. A page with persistent network activity may not reach a network-idle condition promptly, while some sites may take too long to load or fail to emit DOMContentLoaded as expected. Try an alternative that fits the page’s behavior instead of assuming network idle is always more reliable. The options reference and performance guide describe the available waits.

3. Adjust the timeout for the stage that is slow
Increase timeout when the full capture needs a larger overall budget, within the limit for the request mode. Adjust navigation_timeout when waiting for the target website to respond is the stalled stage. Use the error response and caller-side logs to distinguish them; raising both without evidence can hide the cause without fixing it. The values and limits documented by ScreenshotOne are summarized above and in its options reference.
4. Use asynchronous requests for longer work
If a capture may take longer than a synchronous request can reasonably wait, use ScreenshotOne’s asynchronous request flow with webhooks. Its timeout guidance documents an overall timeout of up to 300 seconds for asynchronous requests with webhooks. This does not ensure every slow page will succeed; it lets longer processing complete without requiring a synchronous connection to remain open indefinitely. See ScreenshotOne’s timeout guidance for the supported flow.

5. Retry through a proxy only when symptoms point to routing
A single proxy retry may be worth testing if the failure plausibly involves IP throttling, blocking, or regional routing. A proxy can also slow a request or introduce another service failure point, so routing every capture through one is not a general timeout remedy. First consider page weight, delay, timeout settings, and asynchronous handling. Retry only when automated access to the target is allowed. ScreenshotOne’s API error guide and proxy guide cover these tradeoffs.
6. Reduce unnecessary full-page rendering work
If the request captures a full page, start with the default algorithm and add alternatives or scroll adjustments only when the output shows a specific problem. ScreenshotOne documents a by_sections option, scroll controls, motion reduction, and additional rendering wait adjustments. Its guidance warns that improving rendering quality can degrade performance; extra full-page work can therefore aggravate timeouts. Change only the option tied to an observed issue. See ScreenshotOne’s full-page screenshot guide.

7. Align the caller’s timeout with the request
If the client, reverse proxy, server, or serverless platform stops waiting before ScreenshotOne finishes, the failure may appear as request_aborted rather than timeout_error. Raise or otherwise align the caller-side wait limit with the ScreenshotOne request mode, especially when using asynchronous handling. Check the actual error type before changing capture settings. ScreenshotOne explains this distinction in its API error handling guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ScreenshotOne mean by timeout_error?
It means ScreenshotOne could not complete rendering within the request’s allowed time; either the target response or rendering may be taking too long.
Is a proxy the first thing to try for a timeout?
No. Try a proxy only when the symptoms plausibly indicate IP throttling, blocking, or regional routing; it can add latency and another point of failure.
