Start by finding which list is actually repeating: the local FFmpeg concat file, the playlist hosted on YouTube, or a loop/restart in the FFmpeg command. Remove a duplicate from the list that drives playback; changing YouTube’s playlist will not edit FFmpeg’s local file, and changing the stream key will not change the episode order.
1. Identify where the repetition happens
- FFmpeg plays the same episode twice in sequence: inspect the exact concat script named in the command’s input option.
- The duplicate appears while browsing a YouTube playlist: edit the playlist in YouTube.
- The full lineup starts over after the last episode: inspect the full FFmpeg command and any separate process that restarts or loops it.
These are separate layers. Correcting one does not establish that the others have changed.
2. Check the FFmpeg concat file
Find the path supplied to the concat demuxer in the command you actually run, then open that file. A simple concat script looks like this:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'episode-01.mp4'
file 'episode-02.mp4'
file 'episode-03.mp4'- Compare every
fileline against the intended episode order. - Remove any unintended repeated entry, and check for similarly named files or paths that resolve to a different episode than expected.
- Save the file and run the same command again, confirming that its input points to the file you edited.
The concat demuxer reads the listed paths sequentially, so a repeated directive can produce repeated playback. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation describes its file-list behavior.

Header and path details
For automatic ffconcat recognition, ffconcat version 1.0 must be the exact first line. Do not put a blank line, extra spaces, or a byte-order mark before it. The header is optional when the concat format is selected explicitly. Quote or escape paths containing spaces or special characters according to FFmpeg’s concat syntax; a malformed path can prevent the intended file from being read.
3. Distinguish a duplicate entry from a media or timing artifact
A glitch at an episode boundary can look like repetition without an episode having been listed twice. The concat demuxer requires files to have matching stream layouts, codecs, and time bases. It uses file duration information to set subsequent timestamps, so inaccurate duration data can cause timing artifacts. FFmpeg documents a duration directive that can override a stored duration.

Check the script first for an extra entry. If there is no duplicate, investigate input compatibility and duration metadata rather than treating a transition artifact as proof that the list contains a duplicate.
Choose a concat method that fits the files

See the FFmpeg FAQ on concatenating video files for the distinctions between these methods. Switching methods is not a substitute for removing an accidental repeated line from the input list.

4. Remove a duplicate from a YouTube-hosted playlist
If the duplicate is in the playlist shown on YouTube, open that playlist in YouTube and remove the unwanted video entry, then verify the order. YouTube’s playlist editing guidance covers removing items and reordering entries. This edits the YouTube playlist, not a local FFmpeg concat file.

If FFmpeg sends the podcast feed to YouTube Live, get the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room and enter them in the encoder, following YouTube’s encoder setup instructions. The stream key identifies the destination for the feed; it does not choose which local files FFmpeg plays. A connection problem and an episode-order problem therefore require different checks.

6. Troubleshooting by symptom
