If Reddit will not load in Chrome, first check whether other websites work, then compare Reddit in Incognito and another browser. Those quick tests help distinguish a Reddit-specific problem from a Chrome profile, device, or network issue. Work through the steps below in order; none of them assumes Reddit is down or that Chrome is the cause.
1. Check whether the problem is limited to Reddit
- Verify the address. Make sure you are visiting https://www.reddit.com/, then reload the page.
- Open another website in the same Chrome window. If several sites fail, start with your internet connection and device or network. If other sites load normally, focus first on Reddit and Chrome.
- Note the exact symptom. A blank page, endless loading, an error message, and a page that loads without formatting may point to different areas to investigate. Google’s Chrome connection and loading guidance recommends checking the URL, reloading, and seeing whether one or several sites are affected.
2. Compare normal Chrome with Incognito
Open a Chrome Incognito window and try Reddit there. This comparison can show whether something specific to your regular Chrome profile may be involved, but it does not identify the cause on its own.
- Reddit works in Incognito: Test extensions and site data in your regular profile.
- Reddit fails in both: Continue with another-browser and network checks; Incognito has not isolated a profile-specific difference.
3. Test extensions one at a time
If Reddit loads in Incognito but not in your regular window, an extension is one possibility to investigate. In regular Chrome, open chrome://extensions and switch off extensions, then reload Reddit. If the problem clears, re-enable extensions one at a time, reloading after each change, to identify whether a particular extension is associated with the failure. Google recommends this one-at-a-time approach; do not assume an extension is responsible unless the comparison isolates it.
4. Clear Reddit’s site data or Chrome browsing data
When the page still fails, stale cookies or cached files may be worth checking, particularly if Reddit has loading or formatting problems. Prefer removing only Reddit’s site data if you can identify the site-specific controls in Chrome. If you cannot, Chrome’s Delete browsing data controls let you choose a time range and data types rather than clearing everything indiscriminately.

Be aware of the trade-offs before deleting data: removing cookies can sign you out of websites, and cached content may need to load again. Google describes clearing cache and cookies as a possible remedy for loading or formatting problems, not a guaranteed fix: Clear cache & cookies in Chrome.
5. Compare another browser and check the connection
Try Reddit in another browser on the same device. If it fails there too, a Chrome-only issue is less likely; check your connection and whether Reddit itself is experiencing a service problem. If you can, comparing another device or network can provide an additional clue, though that comparison does not prove the cause.

- Check that the device is online and the connection is stable.
- Check whether firewall or antivirus software is blocking the connection. Do not broadly disable security protections; look for a relevant block or follow the software provider’s safe troubleshooting guidance.
- If Chrome seems short on memory, close tabs and apps you are not using, then try Reddit again.
- If the issue appears to affect Reddit broadly, check Reddit’s current service status before treating it as an outage. A failed page load alone does not establish that Reddit is down.
Google’s Chrome troubleshooting guidance identifies network conditions, security software, available memory, and website availability as possible areas to check. These are general possibilities, not a diagnosis of a particular Reddit failure.

If Reddit continues to fail only in Chrome after the less disruptive checks, Google’s guidance includes resetting Chrome settings and, if needed, reinstalling Chrome. These are general browser troubleshooting measures, not Reddit-specific fixes. Before resetting or reinstalling, review what information is saved in your Chrome profile and make sure you can access anything you may need.
