If a PS Plus game will not download, gets stuck, fails to install or update, or appears locked, first identify which symptom you have. Then check PlayStation service status and your account’s access, retry the download queue, and work through storage, network, and repair steps in that order. The fixes differ between PS5 and PS4, and an error code can point to the right category.
1. Identify the problem and note any error code
Before changing settings, write down the exact error code and message, if one appears. A download that never starts, a transfer that stalls, an installation or update failure, and a locked game can have different causes.
- Queued or not starting: The item remains in the download queue without transferring.
- Stuck: The download starts but makes no progress or stops partway through.
- Install or update failure: The download completes, but the game or its update will not install.
- Locked or unavailable: The console cannot confirm that your account can access the game.
PlayStation’s error-code index separates storage, network, license and subscription verification, content availability, and installation issues. Treat its examples as starting points, not a substitute for checking your exact code.
2. Check PlayStation services and your game access
Check the PlayStation service status before repeatedly retrying. If the page reports an alert affecting the relevant service, wait for it to clear, then try again.

For a PS Plus game, make sure you are signed in to the account that claimed or otherwise has access to it, and confirm that the subscription is active. If it is a catalog game, check that it is still listed in the catalog. If another account provides access through console sharing, check the sharing setting on the console you are using.
- PS5: Check Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- PS4: Check whether the account is activated as the primary PS4.
If the game is locked or the console cannot confirm the entitlement, restore licenses after verifying the account and access. For PS4 error WS-46332-8, PlayStation describes the issue as “Your PlayStation®Plus content isn’t able to download.” Its WS-46332-8 instructions say to restart the console, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, and turn the console off and back on after a few minutes. Contact PlayStation Support if that does not resolve the issue.

3. Pause and resume the download
Retry the queue item before deleting or reinstalling the game. PlayStation recommends these steps for a download that will not start or is stuck:
- On PS5: Open Downloads/Uploads from the control center and choose Pause, then Resume.
- On PS4: Open Notifications > Downloads and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it still fails, cancel and delete the queue item. Find the game in Game Library and start the download again.
4. Make sure the console has enough free space
Compare the console’s available storage with the minimum free-space requirement shown for the title. Do not assume that the game’s listed download size is all the space it needs.

- PS5: In Game Library, select the title, open the more menu, and choose View Product to see the minimum free-space requirement. Check available space at Settings > Storage.
- PS4: Check the title’s Details section in PlayStation Store for its required free space. Check available space at Settings > Storage.
If there is not enough room, free up storage and retry the download.
5. Test the connection and update the console
If a transfer is stuck, test the connection at Settings > Network. If the test identifies a network problem, use PlayStation’s connection troubleshooting. Restart the console and make sure its system software is current.

If a game failed to start and you are downloading it again, PlayStation also suggests trying a wired connection if possible. This is a way to test whether the connection is contributing to the problem, not a fix for entitlement, storage, game-data, or service issues.

For an update that will not install, PlayStation’s recommended sequence is to test the internet connection, restart the console, update system software, and then delete and reinstall the affected game or app. If the problem remains, use the Safe Mode database option for your console:

- PS5: Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- PS4: Rebuild Database.
Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions for the correct console. Do not jump to initialization or reinstalling system software as a routine first step: those are more disruptive recovery options, and PS4 initialization erases data on console storage. If you reach that stage, follow PlayStation’s system-software reinstallation instructions and back up important data first.
7. Use the exact code to choose the next step
These examples from PlayStation’s error-code index show why the code matters; they are not a complete diagnostic list:
- Storage: PS5 CE-107872-5 indicates insufficient free console storage.
- Network: PS5 CE-107863-5 is a network connection error.
- License or subscription verification: PS5 NP-104291-7 and CE-109245-1 relate to license verification; CE-107255-0 and CE-116799-3 relate to inability to confirm a PS Plus subscription.
- Installation or update: PS5 CE-107891-6 indicates content did not install properly; CE-120706-6 is an update-installation failure.
- Availability or application information: PS4 CE-37700-7 indicates content is unavailable in PlayStation Store; CE-32869-8 indicates invalid application information and may involve a partially corrupted database.
Look up your full code in the current PlayStation error-code index and follow the instructions for that code and console generation.
8. Contact PlayStation Support if it still fails
If the steps above do not work, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error code and message, what happened, and the steps that reproduce the problem. The download troubleshooting page also asks for the time you attempted the download and, if possible, a screenshot or video. These details can help Support route the issue to the relevant account, service, or console troubleshooting path.
