Wait for the product price itself to appear and contain its final text before taking the screenshot. A completed page navigation or load event does not guarantee that a site’s later product-data request and interface update have finished.
Why the screenshot misses the price
Modern pages can continue fetching data and updating the interface after the main navigation completes. A screenshot taken immediately after page.goto() may therefore capture an empty price area, a loading placeholder, or an earlier value. This is a timing problem between the automation script and the page; it does not by itself mean the screenshot mechanism failed. Playwright’s navigation guide explains that page work can continue after the load event.
DOMContentLoaded is an earlier milestone, and load concerns document loading—not whether app-specific data such as a price has rendered. Choose a wait condition for the content the screenshot must show, rather than treating a general browser lifecycle event as proof of readiness. See the Playwright Page API.

Wait for the price before capturing
Playwright Test: assert on the price element
Use a locator that identifies the displayed price, then assert that it is visible and populated before taking the screenshot:

- Long-lasting battery + TurboPower charging. Power through day after day with a 5200mAh battery, then get hours of power in just minutes.****
const price = page.locator('[data-testid="product-price"]');
await expect(price).toBeVisible();
await expect(price).not.toHaveText('');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png' });
[data-testid="product-price"] is an example, not a universal selector. Inspect the target page and use a stable locator or an application-owned test ID. Make sure it selects the visible price, not a hidden template or an empty wrapper. Playwright recommends waiting for specific conditions and provides locator assertions for that purpose: Page API and Waiting guide.
If a user action loads or changes the price
When a variant selection or other interaction triggers the price request, start waiting for the matching response before clicking. Then verify the rendered price too: a successful response can arrive before the interface has updated.

const responsePromise = page.waitForResponse(response =>
response.url().includes('/api/product') && response.ok()
);
await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Choose size' }).click();
await responsePromise;
const price = page.locator('[data-testid="product-price"]');
await expect(price).toBeVisible();
await expect(price).not.toHaveText('');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png' });
The endpoint fragment, button name, and locator are illustrative; replace them with the request and controls used by the site. A response wait is useful when you know which request supplies the data, but a broad match can wait for the wrong request. Playwright documents response waits and page-condition waits in its Page API and Waiting guide.

Use a locator wait or equivalent supported by your installed Playwright version. If the readiness rule cannot be expressed as a locator condition, use a page-function condition that checks the actual price state. Set a finite timeout and report a useful error when the condition is not met; do not let a failed wait silently produce a misleading screenshot. The Page API documents waitForFunction and related waits: Playwright Page API.

Choose the right readiness signal
| Approach | When it helps | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for the visible price text | Best when the required outcome is a displayed price. | A brittle selector, variable formatting, or a placeholder that satisfies the check can cause a false pass. |
| Wait for a matching successful API response, then check the price | Useful when you know the request that supplies or recalculates the price. | The response alone does not prove the UI has rendered the value; an overly broad matcher may catch the wrong request. |
Wait for load or DOMContentLoaded |
Useful for document lifecycle milestones. | Neither event guarantees that asynchronously loaded product data is ready. |
Wait for networkidle |
Not a general solution for this specific readiness problem. | Playwright discourages using it as a general testing readiness strategy; assess readiness with an assertion tied to the required page state. |
| Use a fixed sleep | May mask a timing issue in a particular run. | It does not establish that the price is ready; a delay may be too short on one run and waste time on another. No universal delay is established. |
Playwright’s guidance favors condition-based waits over assuming a generic event or delay is sufficient. See Page API and Waiting guide.
Troubleshoot a price that still does not appear
- Check the locator in the same browser context. Confirm it identifies the displayed price, not a hidden element, stale value, or empty container.
- Find how the page obtains the price. Determine whether it is present in the initial document, inserted after a request, or recalculated after a selection. Match your wait to that source.
- Wait for the result of the action that changes it. If choosing a variant triggers the update, assert on the resulting price; a generic page-load wait after a click may not cover a client-side update.
- Distinguish the final value from loading and error states. Make the condition exclude skeletons, loading text, and error messages—not merely detect that the price container exists.
- Use a finite timeout with a useful failure message. When the expected state never appears, stop and diagnose the page or selector rather than saving a screenshot that looks valid but omits the price.
Make visual screenshot tests repeatable
For a Playwright Test visual comparison, toHaveScreenshot waits for two consecutive screenshots to yield the same result before comparing the image with the expectation. You can also use its stylesheet options to hide or alter unrelated changing elements, such as a timestamp. Do not hide or mask the price when the purpose of the test is to verify it. Image stability and semantic correctness are separate checks: assert that the intended price is present, then use the screenshot assertion for visual comparison. See Playwright PageAssertions.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot without building and maintaining browser automation, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its request options include waiting for a selector, a delay, or network idle; for a dynamically loaded price, use a selector that reflects the page’s actual ready state. A generic delay or network-idle wait still does not prove that the correct price rendered.
