Start by checking where the podcast audio disappears: at its source, inside OBS, or after OBS sends the stream to YouTube. Watch the OBS audio meter and make a local recording before changing network settings. OBS network-dropped frames point to a connection or bitrate problem; they do not, by themselves, show that OBS has stopped capturing audio. The steps below help isolate the fault without assuming Airtel is responsible.
1. Find out where the audio stops
When the dropout happens, compare three signals: the podcast source and OBS mixer meter, a local recording, and YouTube’s live preview or stream-health indicators. Note the time of each dropout so you can compare it with the OBS status and log.
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| The source is silent or the OBS meter stops moving | The problem is likely before the stream leaves OBS: source playback, device, gain, selection, or routing. | Check the source, device levels, and OBS capture setup. |
| The OBS meter moves, but the local recording is silent or cuts out | The audio is present at some point in OBS, but may be missing from the recording mix or routed incorrectly. | Check OBS audio routing and listen to the recording. |
| The OBS meter and local recording are clear, but YouTube is silent or interrupted | The issue may occur in OBS output, the connection to YouTube’s ingest, or YouTube playback. | Check OBS network status and YouTube stream health. |
| OBS reports dropped frames at the same time | OBS reports a connection to the remote server that is unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate; this does not prove an audio-capture fault. | Use the network checks below and compare with YouTube’s health indications. |
OBS recommends listening as early in the signal path as possible and again after it reaches OBS through Audio Monitoring. Make a representative local test recording and listen to it before going live. See the OBS Audio Mixer Guide.

Verify that the source is playing and audible
- Play the podcast and confirm sound at the playback device or application before changing OBS.
- Check physical gain and level controls on a microphone, interface, mixer, or playback device, if used.
- Check the relevant operating-system and application volume controls. A muted application or device can leave OBS with no signal to capture.
- Watch the OBS mixer while the source plays. If the meter is quiet or stops, focus on this source and device path before investigating Airtel.
Confirm the selected capture source and routing
- In OBS, check that the intended audio input or output device is selected and active for the scene or global audio setup.
- If you use an Audio Input/Output Capture source in a scene, check whether the same device is also selected under Settings → Audio. OBS warns that capturing a device through both routes can duplicate audio and cause echo; disable the duplicate route if appropriate.
- Test again and listen to a local recording. The names and setup of audio devices vary by operating system, so confirm the device actually carrying the podcast signal.
See OBS Audio Sources for the source options and routing guidance.

3. Check OBS network status before blaming broadband
OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that “your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” That status concerns sending the stream, not whether a local audio device is capturing sound. Review the OBS status and log for the same time window as the dropout.
- Check the OBS log and timing. Match the reported network drops to the moment YouTube audio failed. If the audio meter and recording remain clear while network drops rise, investigate the stream connection.
- Reduce video bitrate for a controlled test. Lower it to a level your connection can sustain consistently, then test again. OBS suggests using 75% of total upload capacity as a starting point, not a guaranteed setting for every service, connection, or shared household. A speed test or advertised plan speed alone does not establish stable performance to YouTube’s ingest.
- Test with Ethernet if you are on Wi-Fi. A wired connection can help determine whether Wi-Fi instability is involved. It is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed cure for missing audio.
- Check the network equipment. Inspect the router, modem, cables, and other network hardware; also consider whether other household traffic coincides with the drops.
- Repeat with representative content. Keep the podcast audio and normal stream content running long enough to see whether the issue recurs under realistic conditions.

4. Check YouTube’s incoming stream
YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, testing with representative audio and movement before an event, and monitoring stream health while live. It also recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live. Compare the OBS meter and local recording with YouTube’s live preview and health indications to see whether the signal is lost before or after it reaches YouTube. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the current recommendations.
- If the local recording is clear but YouTube is not, check the OBS output and YouTube stream-health status during the same time window.
- If YouTube indicates an incoming-stream issue and OBS reports network drops, repeat a test at a lower bitrate and over Ethernet if available.
- If OBS and YouTube both appear healthy but viewers hear cutouts, compare the live preview with another playback device or connection before changing the audio source setup.
5. When to contact Airtel
The available evidence here does not establish an Airtel-specific defect, outage, plan limitation, or required setting. Contact Airtel when a wired test and a conservative bitrate still coincide with persistent OBS network drops. Provide the times of the issue, relevant OBS log entries, upload-test results, and YouTube stream-health state. OBS notes that ISP-side changes or route congestion can be outside a streamer’s control; a plan’s advertised speed does not by itself establish that the route to a live ingest server is stable.
